WTF is it to other people how, why, what or when move/film fans collect things? To each their own....it's the people who constantly harp on about other people's 'habits' that need to get away from the keyboard and get the **** out of the house more.

Personally i like a film to be uncut and presented in the original ratio if possible and a fairly decent print but dvd quality is fine , i have a lot of classic films that i'm not interested in upgrading because they are perfectly watchable copies. i'm not too worried about Blu ray copies sure they look totally spanking sometimes but it can also pinpoint defects that were not noticeable on a less sharp copy. I still think a rough copy of Texas Chainsaw is more effective than sparkly sunshine. Bit like how modern porn is too "enhanced" to be as sexy as girl next door 70's porn. ( or maybe it's just me, i digress) I have numerous copies of old toss films, stuff like Vipco's "The Nostril picker" utter shite but i kinda like having a copy, i don't really need a 4K version and neither does anyone else for that matter. Even films i love i won't upgrade if i've got a decent copy unless it's a steal and stupidly cheap. i've lost track here really but what i'm saying is it's nice to have a juicy copy of a favourite film but sometimes grindhouse grade is better. I'd rather spend money on a "new to me" film than a slight upgrade that is not really gonna enhance the film in any way. Then again if you would rather watch a film constantly over and over in a cave somewhere a 4K upgrade would surely make all the difference for all of 10 minutes. I guess what i'm saying is if u want 2 spend all your money on 10 versions of 1 film then knock yourself out. See if i care. My collection is a film collection i like or stuff that interests me, not a collection of a collection. Shit me that was hard work.

NOS I do agree on what you said the sharper the quality can sometimes take away the tonne of the film and then it loses its effect and appeal. If my DVD quality is good then I'm not arsed about replacing it with blu ray or 4k unless I find it for mere pennies, But at same time I've got odd blu ray film where quality is absolutely bismall And makes the DVD look like 4k But where next 8k then what ? Why can't companies release something that really does need upgrading, like a film that's not seen light of day since vhs, or something obscure that's only been released by one company and its region locked, (people still collect vhs because so many films have not even had a dvd release) after all do we really need New York ripper being released again for the umpteenth time by god knows how many different film companies, look how many times TCM has been released. I know we all want a decent collection and good collection and we are all different \ fussy in our own way that's just how it is. My collection at moment is here there and everywhere and in order like a junk shop but I still know where to find what I'm looking for. I would like it tidier but that's just how it is at the moment until (hopefully ) we move. |

When I think about all the cool gialli and other types of filone that have never been given English-friendly releases on either DVD or Blu-ray, it makes me wish that we could have some of those released rather than 4K remasters of titles that have already had multiple releases.

I too agree that there is too much emphasis on re-releasing product which has already been done to death, I am a film collector who buy's for the enjoyment of the movie itself, apart from the odd special packaged ltd edition that come around I tend to stick to just buying standard editions at a more less inflated price, I am always hoping that something new will be announced to add a breath of fresh air to the choice, I have quite a few upgrades from dvd to blu ray and have no intention of upgrading to 4K as there is nothing wrong with the version I now own, I stupidly sold off a lot of my collection a few years back and am in the process of replacing certain titles back into my collection while not bothering with others, i'm becoming more selective in the versions I buy these day's. |

Personally with that comment I'd rather have 2000 plus films bought cheap than own say 300 films bought at a ridiculous price because it's oop, (but that just me). Like all collectors we do like to own as many films as we can etc but I'd rather own a bare bones film than not own it all if I can't afford the deluxe edition with all the bells and whistles.
