That's an interesting point and again shows just how subjective films can be. I personally prefer this to A Lizard in a Woman's Skin, but there isn't much between them and they are both great gialli by Fulci, a director predominantly known for the gore in his films rather than the mood, pacing and atmosphere.

I have just watched this, and while there are some great shots and directing I didn't enjoy this film and it's not one of Fulci's best. I found it very very slow and kept losing interest easy. It was however very different to his other films that came later until of course I saw the awful ending which made me laugh. When the guy falls from the cliff I was speechless. I understand effects weren't great back then, but even so, someone should have pointed out how bad it looked spoiling the scene where the guys playing football dressed in white.

Fulci has two first rate movies. Zombie flesh eaters and city of the living dead. Not really bothered with any of his other output regardless of genre. |

Certainly up there with the likes of City and ZFE (and better, imo). My personal Fulci favourite remains A Lizard in a Woman's Skin: such a brilliant giallo. |

No,the beyond doesn't cut it for me. I'm not saying its a bad movie and while it does have some great gore scenes i think zfe and cotld do it for me. I remember those two movies with great affection from my youth. I didn't see the beyond till later in life. |

The Beyond is more about atmosphere than gore (though it isn't without it) and is a great film. If you don't have the same fond childhood memories, you're bound to see it differently to Zombie Flesh Eaters and City of the Living Dead, but give it a few years and you'll probably appreciate and love it more as time goes on.

Agreed. Last time i watched it i also noted how brilliant the editing was. Someone must have used a chainsaw to do the job (in a good way of course).

The Beyond's his masterpiece (it is art, surrealism at its best) but my favourite is the Black Cat, and the weird alien atmosphere he brings to the Home Counties.
