The budget got spent on the film - it was decided that comes first - so money was spent looking at things like German TV masters and then finally finding better materials in Italy (which weren't supposed to exist!) and then getting to do his amazing job of re-inserting missing footage.

Fair enough. Getting the film to look and sound good is better than any extras.

Only found out about Footprints (never heard of the film before) when I checked out DVD Times earlier for news and review updates.

Wow. Obviously some lovely stuff said in there but also a very interesting read - really sets the tone for a film that requires your full attention - give it that and it's wonderfully immersive.
