I'll ask Shameless and find out.

When I play blu-rays and select, for example, a special feature that isn't in HD the TV will flicker briefly and then display (eg) 480p (i think?) in the corner of the screen (I use a PS3). So the swap from an HD menu to an SD extra will trigger either the player or TV to nofity the viewer that this change has happened (and is thus no longer displaying in HD) with a flicker and notifcation displaying the resolution info before the SD content is played.

Will this happen when watching the film with the included SD scenes? Ie, when an SD scene comes along, will the player/TV notice this and do something? ie, display a 480p notification, or flicker, or something..?

Does that make sense?! :P

Would it not be possible for Shameless to take the sd 480p/576p clips and convert them to 1920x1080p(this won't improve PQ, sadly) then when the join appears it would be smoother as no bump in resolution would occur. Just a thought.

I believe that's what's happening. It would be ridiculous to include a few seconds of scenes throughout the film in SD when people's tv's will flicker etc like that (mine does it too when switching from SD to HD content). If they did do it like that, there would be a LOT of complaints.

Posting for updates on region coding. Praying for region free so I can pre-order and enjoy this Stateside (and dump my MYA dvd!)

I would imagine that's how things will pan out, it's certainly the obvious solution. I've worked on projects with different vid resolutions and the final edit is always rendered out in one format.

Careful what you ask for, I'd say 80% chance region-free, as that is the more popular choice with their customers.(barring legal issues of course)

You don't have to sleep with anyone -- I provide the information without the need for sexual favours!

Actually, to answer the bulk of your question, the release will be Region All.
