Four Flies On Grey Velvet: The Artwork

Hello everyone,

I bet you're all counting down the days until this release (30th Jan)! So, how would you like to see the artwork panels? Well, say no more!

Here's the front artwork (nice and big) that I'm sure you're all familiar with already.

And it with a rather eye-catching sticker...

And the DVD too...

And as for the reverse...

Well you're just going to have to wait until tomorrow :p

What do you make of the front panel? Any guesses as to what the reverse will be?

---------------------------------

You can pre-order Dario Argento's Four Flies On Grey Velvet on DVD or Blu-Ray (for the first ever time) on

- Amazon (DVD) (Blu-Ray)

- Play.com (DVD) (Blu-Ray)

-HMV (DVD) (Blu-Ray)

I really like that artwork. As good as the classic piece you will hopefully reveal tomorrow.

It really needs the line -

"From the director of Giallo and The Card Player"

Hee hee.

All joking aside, I love this artwork! Needless to say I can't wait to get my hands on this when it's released (end of the month, right?).
My current copy is a VERY low quality bootleg thing from t'internet.

Keep up the great work, Shameless!

Baseball Fury 9th January 2012 01:50 PM

I like that it uses the "flies OF" rather than "flies ON" title.

Haha, I feel the complete opposite. Even if the title does translate as OF. In English speaking territories it's alwsys been known as Four Flies On Grey Velvet.

Does that say OF? I thought it was just the font. I've never heard it referred to as Four Flies *of* Grey Velvet before.

Yeah, it's an f turned on it's side, It looks exactly the same as the f on the word Four and Flies.

platostotal 9th January 2012 02:45 PM

Yep, nice minimal style, instantly recognizable as Argento's classic, another good cover(unless the reverse is mind-boggling) that will do me fine.:thumb:

Hammer time 9th January 2012 02:48 PM

hate the new title

Demoncrat 9th January 2012 02:51 PM

surely the reverse will be "the" image we all know and love yes? and ive never heard it referred to as 4F of GV either, hmmm. c'est la vie....roll on release date!!;)

iluvdvds@Cult Labs 9th January 2012 02:54 PM

Oh that is weird - I thought it said 'On' at first, but I guess it is an 'f'.

I'm sure you'll all fall head over heals in love with the reverse! :p

I believe what Shameless has done, is literally translate the Italian title.

I see! Is that how is translates from the original title? How come you decided to go with that? :poke:

Oops. Sorry - just saw this Stephen. Disregard my last post! That'll teach me to refresh before posting!

Am I missing something? Surely this one.

sethflc 9th January 2012 03:53 PM

I think Shameless left the title open to see either "On" or "Of". I like it.

The Reaper Man@Cult Labs 9th January 2012 06:38 PM

Come on Kyle YOU FRIGGING TEASE!

Amertume 9th January 2012 10:39 PM

I think they (Shameless) should've just written ON or OF in the title. Would've looked less annoying.

Also, I would've loved this tagline on the cover:

"IF YOU DARE TO SEE IT ALONE, MAKE SURE SOMEONE ESCORTS YOU HOME."

Will still buy it though.
;)

:pound: I think you've all waited long enough now :p Here's the reverse...

Here's the Blu reverse artwork

and the DVD...

Demdike@Cult Labs 10th January 2012 01:39 PM

Nice. :woot:

The dvd cover actually looks better than the Blu cover. Maybe beacause the artwork seems larger.

iluvdvds@Cult Labs 10th January 2012 01:41 PM

I was thinking exactly the same thing, Dem! DVD artwork is always better than Blu-Ray. Blu's are just so much smaller. But then I am biased to the DVD, as the name suggests ;)

Sarah@Cult Labs 10th January 2012 02:09 PM

OK so I've known about this artwork for AGES but seeing it on the forum just reminds me how gorgeous it is! :)

Still very happy Shameless picked this... And they picked it because the you guys on here, led by Reaper, demanded it!

:D

Demdike@Cult Labs 10th January 2012 02:22 PM

Can't vote on this yet. When both covers are so good i willhave to see what they look like when the case is in my hand.

Baseball Fury 10th January 2012 02:43 PM

It's a beauty.

sethflc 10th January 2012 04:13 PM

For the side with the classic artwork will the title on the spine be in English or Italian?

Judging by previous Shameless releases, I'd say it will be in Italian

I agree. Cover art on most Blu Rays doesn't impose itself at all largely due to the top of the box being blank except for the B R logo.

Perhaps companies should start releasing films on LP......hang on, I think they kinda did once.

Criterion Blu-ray cases are clear and have nothing at the top though, so others should follow suit! I don't mind the clear ones that Masters of Cinema and BFI now use though as well.

SUPERB!:clap::clap::clap:

I can't see it changing. The boxes are product ID now differentiating them from DVDs. Hey ho, not as if I'm framing them :)

Sobral 11th January 2012 04:45 AM

I wish they stopped having the BD logo and advertisement on the cases... everyone knows the format by now.

Anyway, reverse artwork for me, no doubt about that!

antmumford 11th January 2012 12:36 PM

Kyle, any chance of putting both pics up side by side or above and below each other so I can get a better comparison judgement?

great covers - I like them all!

platostotal 11th January 2012 03:41 PM

Both great, but I'll stick with A. Also, I like the newer more minimalist Shameless covers with the black backgrounds, to me it makes the yellow border really POP(of course original cinema posters, especially iconic ones make great covers but still...) I can spot FOUR FLIES from twenty feet and know which film and label it's on, or maybe that's cause my eyes are shot and simplistic designs appeal:lol:
