I had the same dilemma as, like you, I really like the work of both composers but, because Goblin's scores for Suspiria, Tenebrae and Deep Red are so memorable, I picked Simeone the and Co over the Italian maestro.

Default RE:Favourite Argento Composer?

Wow....if ever there was a harder question regarding Dario Argento it`s this one.

For me it would be a dead heat between Ennio Morricone(the scores he wrote "The Bird With The Crystal Plumage","Cat O Nine Tails"and "Four Flies On Grey Velvet"are among my favourite Morricone scores)and Goblin(the scores for the likes of "Suspiria"and "Tenebrae"are two of all time favourite horror films scores of all time)

One of those rare occasions where I Dont pick morricone. I think Goblin really worked well with Argento and his best scores tend to be done by them. Deep red, suspiria, sleepless for example. Keith emerson also did some great stuff with Inferno.

as for Morricone. He's most remembered for his collaborations with Leone but he's done scores for other work that are possibly better. I love his work on Exorcist 2 more which is weird as the film itself is garbage.

Voted for the Goblin/Simonetti option as I love the Goblin scores to Deep Red, Suspiria, Tenebre, Phenomena and Sleepless.

Only trouble with choosing that option is that more often than not, I find Claudio Simonetti's solo material to be rather weak (much as I do actually like The Card Player's electronic s'track).

btw For instance, the Simonetti Dracula music was absolutely awful.

On Thursday night I had my Goblin t-shirt on and a bloke in the pub asked me if it was the same Goblin that did the music for Suspiria etc, I was shocked that there was another person in my little town who a) knew who Goblin were and b) knew Suspiria, Bird with the Crystal Plumage and others Argento films
