Default Video Game Film Adaptations

Hi all,

With the upcoming DVD/Blu-ray release of Halo 4: Forward Unto Dawn out later this month, here's a thread dedicated to the very best (and worst!) films adapted from video games.

Whether it be brilliantly fun (but stupid) films like Resident Evil or even what-were-they-thinking?! films such as Super Mario Bros, this is the place to discuss them! How many have you seen? Any you would recommened or tell people to avoid at all costs?

I've seen most of them, but very few I actually enjoyed. The best one for just sheer guilty pleasure has to be Street Fighter. There are so many of those scenes that are so bad they are funny. A prime example has to be

Hitman GOOD
Max Payne BAD
Resident Evil GOOD
Silent Hill GOOD
Doom BAD
Alone in the Dark BAD
House of the Dead BAD
Dead or Alive BAD
Super Mario BAD
Tekken BAD
Far Cry BAD
Street Fighter BAD
Street Fighter Chun-Li BAD
Double Dragon BAD
The King of Fighters BAD
Prince of Persia GOOD
Mortal Kombat GOOD

These are ones i have seen many of which are rubbish. Th animated ones are the best.

Dead Space Downfall and Aftermath
Halo Legends
Dantes Inferno
Resident Evil Degeneration
Final Fantasy Advent Children
Street Fighter
Devil May Cry

Im really hoping future films that are planned can stay true to the video games with big budgets and good casts and directors.

World of Warcraft
Bioshock
Gears of War
Dead Space
Assassins Creed
Mass Effect

All these games have great stories but will take great minds to translate properly onto the big screen. Fingers crossed.

I know there may be film adaptations of both Portal and Half-Life. I believe JJ Abrams is currently in talks with Gabe Newell about it. However the question is would it work?

The old cheesy video game movies are awesome, Mario Bros, Mortal Kombat & especially Street Fighter. Can't beat it!

Thought Hitman was alright, Resi 1 and Silent Hill were ok.

With the Resident Evil franchise it seems as though they are milking it so hard that George Lucas is saluting Paul WS Anderson.

I love the Gears of War games, I hope they do them justice and feature this song in the soundtrack!
