What are you playing?

Just a thread to find out what everybody's playing and what they think of it.

Im currently playing Atari / Simbin's 360 Only ' RACE PRO ' which while is proabably in the top 5 Racers that i've ever played ,( think CM's TOCA 4 generations on and you'll have a rough idea . ) it has a nasty bug that randomly wipes your game of the Hardrive while playing career mode, which you need to play to unlock each car class, and forces you to start again.
Apparently the only way to combat this untill a patch is released is to buy a mem card and make 2 saves.

vipco 29th July 2009 12:48 AM

I just started playing SBK 09 and although its a motorbike racing game, which I usually dont care for, this ones quite good so far.
The track side graphics are very bare and lacking in detail , but the blkes and riders look good enough.
I'll give it a bash anyway.

I also bought PES 09 to see what's so good (apparently) about the Pro Evo series, as being a die hard FIFA man its been a long time from i've played a PES game.
I dont see it changing me from FIFA , but it does look fun.

I cant comment on any gameplay as I haven't had access to my machines recently, but thats more or less changed so hopefully i'll get to try them out properly sometime soon.

bedorca 5th August 2009 07:51 PM

I'm playing Red Faction : Guerilla on the PS3 and it bloody rocks

vipco 6th August 2009 12:13 AM

Good to see ya Bed's.
I thought you had a X360 ? You got both now.?

What would you rate Red Faction for gameplay, & graphics outta 10 and overall outta 10 mate.?

bedorca 6th August 2009 07:24 PM

Happy to be back pal :)

I would give it a 9, Vips, for gameplay and graphics although it does remind me of one of my favourite games on the PS2 Freedom Fighters

Xbox 360? Me?

I have always been a die hard Sony man from PS1 onwards

The Reaper Man@Cult Labs 6th August 2009 08:04 PM

Yep gimme the PS1 anyday.Uncomplicated stuff.SILENT HILL still knocks me out.:faint:

mbv 7th August 2009 08:13 AM

At the moment I'm trying to complete Dead Space on the PS3.
One of the best horror games out there and makes the latest resident evil look like crash bandicoot.

I'm too currently playing Dead Space on PS3! Amazing game!!!
Not yet played the new Resident Evil so I can't compare but so far Dead Space has been the best survival horror game I've played since Silent Hill and Resident Hill 2 on the PS1.

Still playing a lot of LittleBigPlanet too. I advise anyone with a PS3 to get this game!

Besides those two I recently completed Fracture for PS3 (nice underated sci-fi shooter) and currently addicted to Zombies Vs Plants on PC!

I was real excited about Resident evil 5 and although it is a good game and looks great it just kinda felt like Tomb Raider(which I also like) but RE games were always good for an aul scare or two so I felt let down by this.

vipco 9th August 2009 11:45 PM

Im mainly playing some Racing games and Sports games, as the new 2010 versions are due soon (EA) , so I wanna see them finished in time.
The next 2 'must buy's' for me are WOLFENSTEIN (360) and Supercar Challenge (PS3) though, cant wait for those 2 .

I reciently got SBK 09 , X360, so I might give the 1 player season mode a go till NFS comes out.

I have a Platinum trophy for that one :coolblue:

vipco 16th August 2009 03:17 PM

Everyone seems to be playing Dead Space, but i've found it a bit to difficult puzzles ways. .

WOLFENSTEIN looks amazing! Can't wait to get my hands on it! :p
Not really played many games lately... Been too busy :(

vipco 17th August 2009 06:02 PM

Busy,? yes , you have been busy Kenny , but look at the fruits of your labour man, bloody brilliant .
Great , great work mate, and good luck with the E4 project .

The sumer's traditionally a slow time for gaming, so hopefully Q3 & Q4 will give everyone something to post about down ere in Almar's Arcade.

It's a tough game...I'm struggling with it but that's one of the reason's I love it. RE 5 was so easy a 4yr old could finish it and it just gets boring

vipco 17th August 2009 07:04 PM

If your way stuck, sites like IGN, EuroGamer etc offer full walk thoughs or if really desperate level codes and the like.

Personally I think Walkthroughs are fine, they're alot better than dumping a 45 quid game or smashing a 30 quid pad , in my case, JERICHO , bashing it off the wall, just cos you got lost , or it aint clear what to do next so as to get to the next set piece. .

What would you think of a Hints thread , as most here are playing the same games and could help each orher out if stuck without spoiling the game mbv. ?

gax 17th August 2009 08:55 PM

Guild Wars as per normal,i play it a lot

vipco 18th August 2009 12:21 AM

gax 18th August 2009 12:35 AM

lot of farming and grinding the diet of a mmorpg player

Yep seems like a plan. I spent an hour trying one part of Dead space and the controller nearly got crushed with anger. Checked the walk thru and very simple solution...suppose at 1am your brain stops working properly

Once I get this finished I'll tackle Fallout 3 before I start Jericho

vipco 18th August 2009 12:08 PM

Im a senior Member at CodeMasters game site , so before here CM forum's was my 'home'.
I remember a mate from there was stuck at the start of JERICHO . It tells you to fire primary and secondary weapons then a cut scene plays, but it dosent tell you that your primary weapon had to be in 'full auto' and this guy spent hours of solid frustration till he looked at the site and seen the problem was widespread.
It was by chance that someone retraced their steps and posted the auto gun setting, as you've Single, 3 round burst and full auto.
The Codies forums are great for help as each game has its own forum and people are glad to help out.

If you approach JERICHO as a standard FPS it can be frustrating, but if you remember that each member has an archane abbilty, like pocession, blood ward etc, then the puzzles become quite logical, and the games QTE's are clearly marked and become easy with practice, but the auto shot thing was just needlessly frustrating and totally lacking logic.

Hope you enjoy JERICHO , its totally on rails, but it is great fun .

gax 18th August 2009 03:04 PM

real time events ruined Jericho 4 me

How much are Codemasters paying you to flog that dead horse?

vipco 18th August 2009 07:29 PM

There's a code to turn them off.
What system did you play it on Gax. .? PC players found the QTE's to be the most frustrating.

I'ved played the PS3 version till the end , but recently picked up a new X 360 copy for 7 quid and found the QTE's to be a bit more akward than the PS3 game , but I put it down to my unfamiliarity with the 360's button layout , as I favour my PS3 .

They can be a bloody nuisance though , and in some cases slow down the temo of the game, but imho never do they ruin the game itself.

I wouldn't expect to see anymore QTE's in the unlikelyhood that CM decide to complete the JERICHO trilology .

gax 18th August 2009 08:47 PM

im a pc gamer m8,thats what makes them so hard the QTE in Resi 4 suck on the pc also

vipco 19th August 2009 10:12 AM

QTE's using a console Joypad aren't to bad. The ones in Legends of Wrestlemania worked quite well , though im sure using a PC set up would be very akward and frustrating.
Have you ever thought about using a Joy Pad for the console games . ? My mate plays using a pad really similar to the X 360 pad. when he's playing the console games on his PC., say's it workes a treat.

There was a code to turn them off in JERICHO , but CodeMasters always release they're games in several different batches, each with an individual batch number that only a code unique to your game's batch will work on your game .
It's to prevent mags and websites publishing them free , as CM would prefer you either buy them from their site or use their £1 a minute Code Line.

Pinhead 21st August 2009 03:10 AM

Black

BLACK is my favourite game so far!!
It's a nice shooter and the FX are SO great!!!
The guns and levels are incridible.
One thing; way too short game!

Daemonia 21st August 2009 12:23 PM

I'm currently playing The Warriors on the PS2. I haven't made the upgrade to PS3 yet.

vipco 22nd August 2009 11:52 AM

Its worth it D, as your PS2 games library ,will be in most cases , compatible with the PS3, esp the 60GB Model.

New , they've dropped to 249 quid but you also get a BluRay player, SDVD Upscaler, an full Internet Web Browser, music 'thingy's' (hi tech jargon there, lol) as well as a Hi Def games machine, so £249 new is reasonable for everything that your buying into , plus you could also trade in PS2 and games and knock the price down further.
Another option is 'Pre Owned' for about £200 with warranty, again you could trade your PS2.

Not cheap I know, but the games are going for 2 x 30 quid, BluRay's are more established and industry supported, and with various offers on in 'Bundle form' , its a good time to get into a BluRay supported Hi Def format, or at least thinking about it , especially if you have a TV that is HD Ready.

The 360's another way to go that'll give yoy HD gaming and SDVD Upscaling, but no BluRay option, for £99 pre 'Owned' (GAME) though there are rumours that MS want to release a BluRay Disc Player ad on, but there's nothing solid.
Again, if its purley gaming , then the 360's a good enough option.

If its strictly games only though, you can buy an HD Converter for PS2 , from ARGOS, GAME, and most other game stores, its made by Datel i think.
The PS2 is a good machine that is still industry supported to an extent and well worth sticking to if your still having fun on it , cos at the end of the day its not BlueRay , Hi Def, or Web Browsers that we look for from our consoles, its fun games , and with the games library that the PS2 has , then theres plenty of fun to be got from the PS2 console yet.

I liked the warriors game, some great gangs featured in it.

.

Every model released after October 2007 (CECHGxx, CECHHxx, CECHJxx , CECHKxx, CECHLxx, CECHPxx) have no PS2 compatibility. This includes the slim version (CECH-20xxA). Sony removed the ability to play PS2 games on the PS3, no update now or in the future will change this.

The CECHCxx 60GB is compatible, but you're likely to see a new one of these rested on top of a pile of rocking horse shit. Second hand ones are easier to come by.

vipco 23rd August 2009 11:16 AM

I knew Sony had plans on streamlining PS3, and altering Backwards compatibility in a way that would leave some skeleton form of PS2 compatibility , but I stand corrected.

I was going by the model I have , PS3 60GB. which BC is almost 100% , plus I though there was a disc available to make Backwards compatibility available , though I think that might be in a grey area legally.

Anyway , Sorry for the misinformation D.
A case of me not doing my homework before posting im afraid.

NossB 23rd August 2009 12:38 PM

PS3 backwards compatibility gone for good

It’s official: Sony has confirmed that backwards compatibility definitely isn’t returning to the PlayStation 3.

During a recent interview, John Koller, Sony’s Director of hardware marketing, said: “It’s not coming back.”

The PS3 did feature support for PS2 games when it launched back in 2006. North American and Japanese models achieved this using embedded hardware, while European machines got the same result through software emulation.

http://www.reghardware.co.uk/2009/08...k_compat_dead/

vipco 25th August 2009 03:33 PM

Its a pretty useless function imho, as I have a 60GB Model with nigh on full backwards compatibility and i've only used it once to see how well it worked.
3 outta the 4 i tried were fine, even upscaled and smoothed out, but the other , a sports game, had problems with onscreen words , as team selection had name issues, ie wrong names or none at all, and no comentry , and bits of the game disappeared.

Although its all fixed on the 60's and the Virtual Mem. Card worked 100%, its somthing I can ever see myself returning to any time soon.

I was looking into 360 BC and if you've a silver or gold status, the x-box game will play fine. Any problems and I was give MS a phone number to use to get a disc sent out to me.

Whats the story with Wii Noss regarding Game Cube . BC.?

vipco 26th August 2009 10:48 AM

Just traded Madden 09 for the princely sum of £9 and bought Madden 10.
Theres , imho, enough new stuff to warrant an ungrade, though only if your a serious NFL /Madden fan .

One thing though, the guy in GAME serving me hassled me all the length of the transaction into 'upgrading' to PS3 Slim.
I told him that HD apart, I did'nt see it as much of an upgrade on what I already had , a backwards compatible 60GB with multi card reader.
After I got his full sales pitch he then asked if I needed an HDMI lead.
This dude was really chasing comission,

Full backwards compatibility, I've got myself a nice collection of Gamecube games since buying the Wii. The Wii also has four GC joystick ports on the side of the console and two GC memory card slots

vipco 9th September 2009 09:07 PM

Just got the new WOLFENSTEIN, for PS3.

First impression's after level 1 are , basic FPS fare, with a very small 'open world' play area, slightly above average graphics and a confusing and pointless 'time veil' .
The shooting thoughs strong and feels good and solid, but the veil thing , at this early stage, is spoiling it for me.

gax 9th September 2009 10:16 PM

just finished Final Fantasy IX helped my brother clean out his shed and found a PS1 in there and a boxed megadrive 2 lol,he had metal gear solid and FFIX for the PS1 and sonic 2 for the megadrive,"do you use these bro","no do you want them?" happy days :)

mbv 10th September 2009 04:13 PM

Started back on Call of Duty Modern Warfare...WAW kinda had me in it's clutches there for a while

mbv 20th September 2009 08:54 AM

Picked up Madden 09 cheap and I'm getting hooked on it.

Also got Arkham Asylum...very impressed, wished they could give Spidey this treatment

vipco 20th September 2009 01:09 PM

Madden 09 is excellent.

One thing mbv, set ' Player ' level and the 'cpu A.I.' level for INTERCEPTIONS to about 10% to 25% Max , as the interception level for both sides is very high per match, 10% up to 25% gives a more realistic setting than the default 50% for both , though 25% is still abit high.

I havent tried Batman yet, but I got DIRT 2 on Saturday, and while its a poor Rally ( 5%- 10% Rally ) game its an awesome Off Road Racer. (think Rally meets X Games)
Racing round Battersey power station in an EVO 10 is way cool.
