Quote:
Speaking of motor racing, Senna is one of the best documentaries I've seen in the last few years and I imagine it is the sort of film which will appeal to those – like Mark Kermode – who neither know anything, nor care about F1. He liked it so much that he gave it the 'Kermode Award' for best documentary. Another recipient of the award was the brilliant You've Been Trumped, which shows why Donald Trump is such a polarising figure and loathed by many.

Louise Brooks: Looking for Lulu (1998) A fascinating hour long documentary narrated by Shirley MaClaine about the life and career of Hollywood legend Louise Brooks. Featuring anecdotes from an archive interview from the 70's with Brooks herself, this is a thoughtful, amusing and occasionally tragic look at how a lifestyle ruined a movie career. Featuring lots of clips from her films, many of which do not have a home video release and many of them rather rare including her first ever screen appearance and her last role alongside John Wayne in an early western, and interviews with her family, friends, as well as Hollywood stars like Roddy McDowell, make this an essential look at the life of a Hollywood great. Best quote - "She saw masturbation as an art form" I have to admit i only saw Louise in a film - Pandora's Box - for the first time two days ago, and i feel completely under her spell. So much so that after watching this doc last night i turned off Argento's Deep Red out of impatience and agitation to watch Pandora's Box again. |

The Life of Death; A two hour long doc on how you would like to die, how your own impending death affects your outlook, how it affects your work and how it affects the people who matter in your life. Talking heads include, Caroline Munro, Tony Timpone, Scooter McCrae, Lloyd Kaufman and Don May. Good documentary, but the running time could have been shortened by about 30 - 40 minutes. |

Yes, I have - I picked the BD up in the Eureka's last sale for £7.99 I think the booklet is actually longer than 40 pages from memory and makes for an interesting read. It even includes some writing from Brooks herself. |
