Default What Documentaries Do You Recommend?

I'm a huge fan of documentary cinema/TV, from the Julian Temple Punk trilogy to the various Werner Herzog titles and everything inbtween.

What titles can you recommend to me that I may of missed? I don't mind what the subject matter is, just as long it is a rivetting story.

Over to you.

Easy riders raging bulls, from the book of the same name, great look at 70's hollywood.

Halloween 25 years of terror, Last word on the franchise.

Theres two to start you off with, i'll probably think of lots more though. I quite like Michael moore, and Herzog is the king!

Think I'm drawn to docs with 'charater' more than 'story'. Hence my love for things like King of Kong, Salesman, and American Movie.

Or there's the deeply morbid fascination of The Bridge, though there is something uplifting in the interviews with the relatives of the suicide victims . . .

Cocaine Cowboys

The film explores the rise of cocaine and resulting crime epidemic that swept the American city of Miami, Florida in the 1970s and 1980s. The producers of Cocaine Cowboys use interviews with law enforcement, journalists, lawyers, former drug smugglers and gang members to provide a first hand perspective of the Miami drug war.

After watching this, the film Scarface doesn't seem so OTT or far fetched!

80 Blocks from tiffany's

Documentary that looks at the severe social decay in the South Bronx during the 1970s.
The South Bronx of today is a much different place than it was 30 years ago, a world that has long since vanished. 80 Blocks... is a compelling and one-of-a-kind look into this time seen through the eyes of those trapped in a domestic warzone.

Tabloid

Tabloid (2010) is an American documentary film by Errol Morris. It tells the story of Joyce McKinney, a former Miss Wyoming, who in the 70s was accused of kidnapping and raping Kirk Anderson, an American Mormon missionary. The incident, known as the Mormon sex in chains case, became a major tabloid story in Britain and triggered a circulation battle between two popular newspapers, The Daily Mirror and The Daily Express.

There's more to it than that, it also gets into how she cloned one of her dead pets!

Nick Broomfield made a couple of interesting feature length documentaries about Eugene Terreblanche.

The best film documentary in recent years, " never sleep again" . We can only hope that the upcoming Friday 13 th documentary from the same team is as good.

Best doc I seen since Never Sleep Again is West of Memphis!
Its not about horror movies but its about a horrific crime that happened in 1993 in the US.
Excellent doc that is informative and well made. At the end you will be asking yourself if what transpired is right or wrong!
