my videodrome blu has yet to show up!

oaxaca 30th November 2010 01:01 PM

Bought the following blu rays:

Origin Spirits of the Past (anime) (£6.50 HMV)

In the Electric Mist (tesco £6)... watched last night, solid film; tommy lee jones is great as usual and Tavernier captures the atmosphere of the 'deep south' pretty well, if a little less evocatively than Eastwood managed in 'Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil'.

Zulu (cex £6).

pedromonkey 30th November 2010 01:03 PM

received Django this morning and loved every minute of it...

the blob 30th November 2010 01:05 PM

Se7en digibook arrived today. First digibook I've bought and it looks quite nice actually. Not sure if it'll inspire me to get any more at their regular prices though but you never know...

nekromantik 30th November 2010 01:53 PM

Just got my Videodrome blu!!
It has a slight dent in the outer slipcase so have emailed Axel.
Came packaged in 2 jiffy bags though.

Watched:

Hardware - Looked gorgeous in HD
Spirits of the Dead - Impressed by this one too, and even though it wasn't an Arrow Video release it was nonetheless a very impressive package

It is a fantastically entertaining film with a great soundtrack and central performance by Franco Nero who is oddly given the credit of playing Django when that is the name of his gun, not him.

pedromonkey 30th November 2010 09:34 PM

been trying to get the soundtrack all day but can't find it anywhere. Have Django Strikes Again on the way Too

Where did you hear that?

nekromantik 30th November 2010 10:32 PM

Just seen Videodrome.
It looks awesome. Love the movie too.
"Long Live The New Flesh"

I am no longer a Criterion virgin ha ha

pedromonkey 1st December 2010 01:18 AM

the mexican refered to him as Django. Not his Gun.

Nosferatu@Cult Labs 1st December 2010 10:23 AM

Plus, if you look on the IMDb or just about any other film site, it will have Franco Nero down as playing Django. (I have a long-standing suspicion about the quality of credits at the IMDb, especially the huge numbers of uncredited cast members.)

I watched that the other night, visually it was great but I don't think the stories added up to much really but I was engrossed whilst watching it.

I have a few questions if anyone can answer them.

In 1990 it was cut by the BBFC by just over a minute, does anybody know what was cut before and are the scenes in the blu ray as I can't find anything to say it has been resubmitted on their website. I hazard a guess that it was possibly Delon whipping Bardot even though it was a very tame scene. I also can't see why in this day and age it that it has an 18 certificate.

the blob 1st December 2010 02:21 PM

The BBFC decision schedule can be pretty weird though. I was having a look the other day and according to them THX 1138 was only classified a couple of weeks ago even though the Blu has been out for a month and a half.

I've always enjoyed the 'Toby Dammit' story - great performance from Terence Stamp.

Also, Jane Fonda is a smoking hotty as the Contessa in 'Metzengerstein'. ;)

Not sure about the details regarding the cuts either, although I'd agree on the whipping scene as Rollin's Requiem for a Vampire was cut for the same reason.

Easily the best of the three in my opinion.

The Shinjuku Incident - Crime drama with Jackie Chan, I really enjoyed this, great performance from Chan in one of the most serious roles I've seen him in.

Anyone notice a small visual anomoly on Eureka's Shogun Assassin BD? During the credits at the beginning of the movie, the camera pans across the castle for a few seconds and the picture seems to judder a couple of times. I checked the disc on a couple of players and it was still there and also checked the scene on the dvd and the judder isn't there. Very strange. Anyone else notice it? As I say it's only for a few seconds.

I can't remember seeing anything like that, but I'll check my disc when I get home tonight and confirm then.

I watched Cronenberg's Videodrome on Blu-Ray last night - absolutely stunning. An essential purchase, and high up on my list for release of the year.

I've never seen Videodrome, even though David Cronenberg is one of my favourite directors. Is it a region free Blu-ray?

Recieved two early birthday presents today:

LIGHT BLAST - Code Red
VIDEO NASTIES THE DEFINITIVE GUIDE - #296

Nosferatu@Cult Labs 2nd December 2010 01:32 PM

I scanned that post very quickly before reading it properly as I thought it said that you paid $296 for Video Nasties: the Definitive Guide!

Unfortunately not (it's Region A locked), but it is worth buying a region free player/drive just for it!

It's one of my favourite films of all time. :coolblue:
