At least i'm not the only person on planet earth that enjoyed eyes wide shut....

Despite my growing backlog of things to watch I got through the warner archives disc of the pack, a supurb nature amok movie from the director of enter the dragon.

2nd up was Richard stanleys hardware, a film I seem to find myself watching at least once every couple of months.

Finally I watched Repo man (tho old anchor bay release with the soundtrack in the liscense plate tin)

Maybe a third viewing is in order, but that will have to wait until my pile of unwatched discs (which will skyrocket at the weekend) has diminished somewhat.

Man On Fire is very brutal modern revenge film, with a brilliant performance from Denzel let down by Tony Scott's hyperactive editing and Camera work, which is a shame as this could have been on Par with True Romance, which like Demdike is my Favourite Tarantino script, Christian Slater and Patricia Arquette are just brilliant and Her fight scene with James Gandolfini is very very brutal.

Watched Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes, that's how you make an apes film, hands down one of the best of the year. Really did blow me away. Intelligently written, acted and directed by Rupert Wyatt even if some of WETA's digital FX were a bit naff every now and then.

I also really liked Eyes Wide Shut, the whole thing had a weird dreamlike quality to it, almost Lynchian, but undeniably Kubrick.

And anyone who says in general that Cruise can't act is quite clearly an idiot.

I liked Eyes Wide Shut very much. Went to see it a couple of times at the flicks when it came out. Extremely under-rated, I think.

I agree with you about Cruise's acting ability
although not a fan of RAINMAN, I thought he might of got Oscar nominated as with BORN ON THE 4TH OF JULY and he was good in the first and the best imo MISSION IMPOSSIBLE et al
but when it comes to Scientology....he's an absolute jerk

I'm not entirely sure where I stand on Eyes Wide Shut as, each time I see it, my opinion moves from 'masterpiece' to 'complete misfire' and it's really the only film about which I am completely schizophrenic!

Unlike every other Kubrick film, it's not one I'm in a particular rush to own on Blu-ray - the only other one I don't have is Full Metal Jacket, and that's something I intend to buy shortly.
