Today's arrivals, one (right) an upgrade from DVD and the other (left) is a film I've never seen before.

A lot of people really rate The Blob but i was severely underwhelmed when i first saw it on dvd a few years ago.

Cat People
is just wonderful though.

I hope you love them both.

I think Cat People is a very good film, a great exercise in suspense and mystery. Some of the acting is unconvincing and it isn't as well-written as the best films of the 1940s, but it's a solid horror film that seems to have improved with age.

There's a new Paramount Scream blu-ray coming out tomorrow, it's currently just seven pounds on Amazon. It should be the new master that's also being released on 4K UHD on the same day (I've ordered this 1080p disc and I'll be very disappointed if it isn't the new master).

Assuming all is well, this will have been a bit of a steal - I'm not paying twenty pounds for a 4K UHD when I can have the same new master in 1080p for around a third of the price. btw Scream badly needed a new version, my current bd looks quite bad. Would also love a much better looking Scream 2 blu-ray.

That's annoying. I ordered the three film blu-ray set last Friday. I see the new disc has a new doc. If this is a decent length i' guess i'll double dip on this new release.

Yeah, that's the one. Same artwork as the 4K UHD and Amazon are listing same special features. Hopefully it is also the new master, I'll be able to confirm once it finally shows up (estimated delivery is Saturday). btw I'm also reluctant to spend twenty quid on Scream 1 since apparently it's just R rated version again.

There's currently no sign of new discs for Scream 2 and 3 so I wouldn't feel too bad.

Justin101 17th October 2021 01:47 PM

I'm hoping that my digital copy of Scream gets upgraded to 4k at some point next week, it's in my lineup for Halloween and I don't want to watch the older master. However I might pick it up physically for the collection, don't know how many times I've bought Scream in the past lol...

I would like the 4K Ultra HD release but, like you, I'm reluctant to spend £20 on another version, so have pre-ordered the standard Blu-ray version.

I'm going to see if it's in Asda this week. There's a chance as they've stocked these £7 re-releases / remasters this year such as Austin Powers, Star Trek 1-4, Mission Impossible and currently have Dune for example.

I know i won't be able to resist if i can hold it in my hand.

My Asda didn't have those Star Trek discs for £7??? They were £12 each!

You are quite correct. I bought two of them.

What i was trying to say is that Asda stock new re-releases as well as new movies.

Ah ok sorry. Thought the buggers in my local branch were trying it on.

Scream blu-ray arriving tomorrow (Monday) apparently. :) (I have prime at the moment).

SymbioticFunction 18th October 2021 11:31 AM

The Paramount Scream blu-ray arrived, had a sneak peek and PQ is a massive improvement over the old disc. It now looks like film whereas the old version had a very unfortunate video-like look to it. This is easy to recommend for a seven pound asking price. btw I think the only new extra is 'A Bloody Legacy, Scream 25 Years Later' which is only a pitiful 7 and a half minutes long. Still the much better PQ is the reason to pick this up.

Demdike@Cult Labs 18th October 2021 11:34 AM

Just a heads up the Scream blu isn't in Asda so will have to be bought from elsewhere.

Justin101 18th October 2021 11:55 AM

It's £6.99 in HMV :)

Just arrived from Amazon. I only ordered it at about half eleven last night. Very bizarre as i don't have Prime. Also begs the question why couldn't they send the other disc from the 2 for £15 offer i ordered at the same time.

True Romance was a pre order from Amazon, the other two I've picked up in HMV today, surprised to see Cold Light of Day there is this special slip cover because I thought that was a web exclusive, it was £8 anyway. Yokai came out today.

Why' does Walken look more like Data from Star Trek?

Justin101 18th October 2021 04:54 PM

I'll be flipping the cover, it's got the original white artwork on the other side

Nosferatu@Cult Labs 18th October 2021 04:57 PM

That True Romance artwork is horrible.

And Dennis Hopper looks like Ernst Stavro Blofeld wearing a grey wig.

Justin101 18th October 2021 05:07 PM

I don't think it's all that bad, the art they used on the limited edition sets was way worse.

The same reason Hopper's wearing a fat suit.

Scream has upgraded to 4k on my iTunes purchase now, meaning I got the 4k remaster and new extras, plus Scream 2 & 3 (as of yet not remastered) for £9.99 as I bought the 'box set' when it was in a sale earlier in the year :) I'm going to watch it tonight.

I can't take my eyes of them... It does have a certain 3D quality.

It's the usual type with 10 or so colour pages of pics in the middle :)

Thanks.

I'm very much undecided. Other than host a few late night horror thons and starred in two films i'm not really sure what she's done in life to make me want to read her book.

And i hate reading about childhoods.

Four new additions to my collection this week.

I wasn't going to buy the Shameless Baba Yaga, but then the urge to fill the gap in my collection overcame my resistance.

I was very impressed with Godzilla vs. Kong and haven't seen Godzilla: King of the Monsters, so seeing the 4K Ultra HD releases in the HMV 2 for £25 offer was almost a no-brainer decision.

I thought Godzilla King of the Monsters was excellent, Nos.

I described it as an eighties heavy metal album cover come gloriously to life. The imagery is wonderful. Not sure if there was a plot but i didn't care.

I initially bought it on dvd just a few weeks before my dvd player gave up the ghost and i didn't hesitate to double dip as soon as i got a Blu-ray player.
