wonder what the anamorphic 1.85:1 version is like esp as it was filmed in 1.33:1!

Just watching THE BIG COUNTRY and its one of the very best transfers I've seen on Blu. It really is pin-sharp with absolutely no blemishes and gorgeous colours. It looks like it was filmed yesterday... or even today! :p (Refuses to play on my ToshibaBDX1200 though!)

My last planetaxel splurge (until payday, anyway :p):

The Entity pre-order at £8.88 and 36th Chamber of Shaolin at £6.46 are particular good deals at the min!

I watched it last night. I read a review that said the 1.85 framing was a bit tight, but I found it more than acceptable.

Me too, I thought it looked just fine.Nothing of any importance was cropped from view.

Haven't mate - I did try and watch it when it was on Film 4 a couple of years back but was too tired and fell asleep about 5 mins in.

Yeah, I believe so. I heard the ending is really depressing.

It's downbeat throughout. It's hard to believe it was directed by the same person who made lighter fare like Companeros and White, Yellow and Black. Django is quite dour but Great Silence is definitely darker, IMO.
