In American, the word 'pants' means trousers. Panties means knickers

None of this is new to me...

...that they might say "pant suit" in Wales was however!

They also call trousers 'pants' in Northern England, South Africa, and Australia.

Trousers is a word primarily and almost exclusively used in the south of England.

I have a South African friend who moved over to Surrey to work and study for a few years. On moving she walked into M&S and asked a sales assistant to show her where the pants were. Imagine her horror when he led her into the lingerie section. ;)

Are you suggesting I'm a Southern softie?

Although the original is better, I quite like this version and, if you don't hold the original as a sacred cow, it's well worth watching.

I think it will be one of those films that if it's on sky I'll watch. I have watched countless dire remakes that way before.

More dvd's arrived today. Of course the pile wasn't as high as I hoped! There should me more coming this week, I need more!

I know Northern England is a big place and I only live in one small part of it, but I've never met anyone who referred to trousers as pants. I knew a South African woman who had lived here for a few years and she still called them pants, though I suspect she knew exactly what to say in shops!

The word Addict comes to mind there! Not like me or the rest of us on here of course. :D

It's okay Suze - I'm a southern softie, too. ;)

It's very common throughout Lancashire and Yorkshire to call trousers pants. I'm not saying that everyone who lives in Northern England calls them pants, though.

I'm living in 'pants' country at the moment, and I take extra care to call them trousers at every available opportunity.

Spoken like a true addict ;)

That's a great start though. Dead Ringers is a favourite. The last time I watched it was with my Mum - she actually really enjoyed it.
