It's been matted from 1:33:1 to 1:85:1 I think, but all blu rays except for the US are like that.

Its got nothing to do with it being plasma by the way. Amy 4.3 content on a modern LCD will have bars on the sides unless you select to stretch the image on the tv. Some players also have a feature to display it stretched.

Yours is a LCD.

I'm pretty sure he means the distraction is due to them being grey and not black, Nek.

It's also something I've had to get used to on my Plasma.

I knew about the award won by Murnau's film but, until searching for a list, hadn't heard of any of the winners from that year apart from the first Best Actor Oscar been won by Emil Jannings as one of those weird pieces of trivia which is usually stored away in the 'useless information' section of your brain!
