It's a fun and freaky watch. |
well bought all the ones i listed, luckily i got some money today i was owed, so using that will do a bit a research on coffin joe set, it seems a very "marmite" films. |
Coffin Joe is an aquired taste, let's put it this way, you'll eiter find it brilliant or boring. It alternates between classic horror with some extreme touches (for the time) and the later meta films, where Mojica Marins appears both as Coffin Joe and as himself. That AB set has some flaws but it's the most acessible way currently to get to know these films. The best prints are on the US Fantoma set, and the brazilian set is packed with extras, but both of these are now OOP and neither has many films as the UK set. I own the US, brazilian & UK sets, plus the portuguese VHS's, his biography... I've even met him once  EDIT: Regarding the packaging, there seems to be a new version in one of those thick boxes, unlike the one pictures on Amazon, similar to the Bava boxes. http://img2.mlstatic.com/ze-do-caixo...070_052012.jpg |

I believe these 3 discs are barebones, but they're not easy to find elsewhere. |

Whatever you do, don't get Antonioni's Story of a Love Affair or The Adversary from Bongo - the PQ is not good at all on those. But some of the recent restorations look promising - the Saragossa Manuscript and the Hourglass Sanatorium might be worth checking out. |
