It's been awhile since I've posted, so it seems like a lot, but it really isn't. There's a lot of gold and foil going about recently, with Amour, The Hunt and House At The End Of The Street. I'm quite fond of House, it hit at a time when I was so completely over the sheer amount of found footage / unexplained phenomenon / spectre style films, where storytelling has fallen victim to creating an 'effective experience' (where often the experience really isn't all that effective). I’d happily take it over tripe like The Possession any day. The two Chabrol releases are complete blind buys (as with City Of Women actually), I place my faith in the quality of Eureka's licenses. Tabu was one of my favourite films of last year, easily top 5, sad that so few went to see it. My copy of The Master got lost in the post, but Sainsburys were pretty quick to sort it out. Shame was £5 with slip at Asda for some Mother's Day promotion (I'm not letting my mother watch it, that's for sure!). The Third Man and The Living Dead At Manchester Morgue were things I've been meaning to buy for what feels like such a long time. I also picked up my first German Imports . I'm very happy too, The Boogeyman mediabook is very swish. I'm wishing I stumped up the extra to get the mediabook of Anguish now. I still try not to buy DVDs, but I can't help it. The New Normal, which I'm hooked on, brainwashed me to seek out Grey Gardens. Cold Prey and the sequel have such a good reputation, so I hope they're good. The Man With The Severed Head was free from Arrow. The Strange Vice Of Mrs. Wardh is another I've been meaning to pick up for so long. |
