I thought Phone was abysmal. Even more inept than Maniac.

Yep it certainly was. Over 3 mins and all to the infamous murder scene. Hard to say if it would pass intact today though the cuts would be reduced. Very much a fringe title.

You'll have to revisit Don't Open Till Christmas soon BE.

Pete 6th November 2009 09:39 PM

I really should buy Dont Go in the House.

IMO Phone is way better than Maniac.

I like Maniac so may enjoy Phone too... :behindsofa:

Don't Open Till Christmas is one I haven't seen in a long time. I didn't think much of it when I first watched it but that was a while ago. I may have to give it another go! I could double-bill it with Silent Night Deadly Night. ;)

vincenzo 6th November 2009 10:00 PM

Don't Open Till Christmas is truly dire but it's also truly enjoyable. Just impossible to dislike and I've tried to many times. :pound:

LineSix 6th November 2009 10:22 PM

Maniac is a great film, I thought it was more popular and liked than it is, seems a lot of people hate it?

I liked The Last Winter BS (well worth £2 anyway!). I still need to watch Director Fessenden's Wendigo, which is supposed to be similarly themed and better.

Daemonia 7th November 2009 11:21 AM

My Halloween (Anchor Bay) Blu-ray arrived this morning. I'll be giving it a spin later. :)

£3 from HEAD

bizarre_eye@Cult Labs 7th November 2009 08:27 PM

Is HEAD the bastard son of zavvi BS? If so I think I went to a big one in Bristol last year and managed to pick up some Tartan titles pretty cheap.

Well, I love it! I'd put it on a par with Henry:Portrait of a Serial Killer, only Maniac is much gorier.

Gojirosan 7th November 2009 10:21 PM

Recently...well...loads!

In the last couple of weeks I've obtained:

Blood Sabbath
Don't Ring The Doorbell
The Baby
The Taking Of Pelham 1 2 3
Body Snatchers
The Designated Victim
Oasis Of Fear

Shriek Show's Pete Walker box - Frightmare, House Of Whipcord, House Of Mortal Sin, Die Screaming Marianne
Shriek Show's "Psycho Killer" box - Delirium Photo Of Goia, House At The Edge Of The park, Beyond The Darkness
Delirium
Cold Eyes Of Fear
Watch Me When I Kill
Killerfish
Blood And Black Lace
...

...and probably more that I can't recall right now!

Pete 7th November 2009 10:31 PM

Which Delirium is that? Renato Polselli or Lamberto Bava? or is it the 'Video Nasty'?

Daemonia 8th November 2009 12:10 AM

Well, I watched the Halloween Blu-ray earlier and I thought it looked stunning, the best it's ever looked. I did notice that the colour pallette has been altered somewhat, but I only really noticed because I was aware that it's an issue with some people. If it wasn't for that, I probably wouldn't have noticed, to be honest. So, my own opinion is that the Blu-ray is excellent. Everyone else will have to make up their own minds.

The Bava Jr in the Shriek Show box set and the BU Polselli individually.

Pete 8th November 2009 12:46 AM

The Polselli film is a lot of fun. Bava's is dreadful! IMO.

Yeah, I believe so, but it was cheaper to buy the box than to get House...Park and Beyond The Darkness separately!

Pete 8th November 2009 12:52 AM

I had that box. House is good and i thought Beyond the Darkness was ok, if a bit boring in parts. Great goblin soundtrack though!

Gojirosan 8th November 2009 12:56 AM

I like them both. Wanted to upgrade my VHS dupes and that box seemed ideal! If nothing else, the Bava Jr might make a nice coaster and spare Amaray! :D

Pete 8th November 2009 12:58 AM

I wouldn't insult my cup of tea by using that as a coaster!

It does have it's good points; Serena's breast's and the catchy theme tune but thats about it.

bdc 8th November 2009 08:17 AM

Is Blood Sabbath the one with Dyanne Thorne?
Nice dvd? UK?

kevxxx1 8th November 2009 09:32 AM

I watched Halloween on Blu Ray yesterday and thought the quality was excellent. I think only the hardcore purists will have any real issue with it.
I remember watching this as a pre-cert VHS 25 years ago with washed-out colours, murkiness and in fullscreen and it was still a great film. This version is the best yet.

iluvdvds@Cult Labs 8th November 2009 10:22 AM

I watched my FIRST EVER blu-ray last night round a mate's house! :woot: We watched Elite Squad which was okay I guess, and yes the picture quality was great but it's still not enough to make me go blu-ray. But it's most likely just the way that film was...filmed - very City Of God like. And when we watched a bit of the ol' Pan's Labyrinth blu-ray it did look incredible.

But still, DVD for me! I do luv them, afterall.

It is the Dyanne Thorne naked witches romp. The quality is a little poor - grainy and washed out with some scratches on the print etc - but perfectly watchable.

It's a very, very budget UK release (cost £1) from Pegasus/Avatar. This is the one: Blood Sabbath at Amazon UK

Not sure of the general release information of this disk, I've only ever seen it in Poundland discount stores and the relatively expensive (but still cheap!) Amazon deal.

bdc 8th November 2009 01:10 PM

Thanks for the info!
Will be getting that one. :)

Daemonia 8th November 2009 06:01 PM

There's plenty of life left in DVD yet, mate. However, this is the Blu-ray forum - so bugger off! :D :D

(I'm just kidding in case anyone thinks I'm being unnecessarily offensive ;) )

"Please sit back down on the couch, Mr. Iluv.'

'DVDS! Blu-Ray! DVDs! Blu-Rays!'

"Restrain him, nurse!"
