I didn't buy this, but I've just received this signed photo of Max von Sydow in the post, sent from France.

Strangely, I sent an 8x10 photo of a still from The Exorcist which, in an accompanying letter, I asked if he would sign, and there is no sign of that. Unless he has assumed it was a gift, I hope it will follow at some point in the future.

His management will have hundreds of those pics you received. It's doubtful he'll ever see the one you sent.

At least you had a reply and a nice signed photo.

That's very true. Another strange aspect to this is that the photo came with photos I sent of me and my collection which, along with the 8x10 and letter, had been sent to his management company in London, whereas the reply came from France, where he currently lives with his wife. (Angleterre was handwritten on the address label, and looks like his handwriting.)

I'm going to do the same with Linda Blair, Ellen Burstyn, William Peter Blatty and William Friedkin, hopefully receiving the 8x10 prints which can then be framed together.

I'd love to meet them all (Friedkin, Blatty, von Sydow, Blair, Burstyn) but it seems only Linda Blair goes to festivals/conventions and, as far as I can see, most of those are in the US.

Funny you should mention the Exorcist Nos, I'm currently writing a research report on the effectiveness of sound/music in Horror films for Uni, and one of my chosen films to discuss is The Exorcist, the other two being Suspiria and Hellraiser. I've just watched the documentaries included with the 2 disc BD, whilst reading Mark Kermode's book on the making of :)

N.B I'm also attempting to recreate the sound design from a scene from it too, which I will upload next year after I've handed it (and the scenes from Suspiria and Hellraiser) in to my personal tutor. Haven't decided which scene yet though !

In The Friedkin Connection, William Friedkin writes at length about choosing the music and creating sound effects (with such things as the cracked leather wallet for the head spin), so try and find it in the Uni library if you don't have a copy.

I've got all the info I need on the Exorcist, sadly my report is only allowed to be 3000 words long, I could've done more talking just about that one film, so I need to be concise if I'm to get in enough about the other films.
I'll add that book to my wish list though, so thanks for the (spinning) heads up :)
