Ha! When I saw it, I sarcastically said the same thing in response to her question, accidentally beating Mr Johnson to it by about a second!

It is one of the most clichéd exchanges in a film in a long time.
keirarts and Nordicdusk like this.

The silly thing is, that is what the Americans would probably say. It's their attitude. I was in LA years ago after an earthquake hit, not a terrible one but one that split roads and destroyed a large bridge and they'd sorted it all out within six months.

We'd still have flashing 20mph signs and speed cameras up thirty years later.

In that case, it's a good example of art imitating life. Maybe it's the other way around, or perhaps it's a symbiotic relationship.

There were a few corkers in there.
"Thats the first time I've got you to second base in a long time" was class.
My missus couldn't stop giggling when Dwayne's wife says "what are we gonna do" and he replies "we're gonna go get our daughter".
Not a plan or some strategy, just "we're gonna go get our daughter".
Erm...but you don't have any idea where she is??

I think my biggest gripe with the entire story was the way he used the State's helicopter – reserved, I imagine, for emergencies – as his own personal vehicle, not taking any calls or stopping buildings from collapsing, but just trying to rescue his family!

Really?

I think you watched it in the wrong frame of mind.

I mean would anyone high up in the emergency services have known their helicopter wasn't on it's pad as the whole city collapsed? It was afterall in the hands of probably their best life saving dude, perhaps their pen pushing bureaucrats are less the jobsworths that we have.

Stopping buildings collapsing?? You don't think credibility was a little stretched as was Nos?

I think i'd advise Nos to steer clear of any film that may have the words 'fast' or 'furious' in it's title.

He may explode!

Maybe not on his own, but part of a team effort? If he wasn't so focused on his wife and daughter, who knows how many lives he could have saved.

As you say, it is stretching the limits of plausibility anyway, so sticking to a simple redemption story was probably the right decision.

I'll have you know that I've seen all but the most recent one, and my head is intact!
