The paper cover on my Double Indemnity Steelbook was so well stuck it ripped during the (very careful) removal process, so I have put the discs and booklet elsewhere, leaving the Steelbook practically sealed for eternity!

Nosferatu@Cult Labs 7th July 2012 09:51 AM

I've had the same DVD for a couple of months but haven't yet watched it and, as I haven't seen any version of Malabimba before, I really have no idea what to expect – probably a good thing.

It's supposedly extremely sleazy but Severin have said that many times before about some of their releases and they haven't really lived up to the billing. Mind you, it was produced by the same people who did GIALLO A VENEZIA and PATRICK STILL LIVES so there is a big chance it might.

I hope so anyway!

Pete 7th July 2012 09:58 AM

SATAN'S BABY DOLL is a remake of it btw.

Right, that gives me an idea of what story to expect at least! I'll probably have to watch Satan's Baby Doll afterwards to see how it compares.

But the hardcore sequences are just inserts made by perverts and not how the filmmakers intended the film too be. That's why i went for the Unrated version instead.

Anyhow, it's a fun film. The girl in the leading role (can't remember her name) is excellent. Sad she only did one movie, but who can blame her after the Malabimba-experience she went through? :)

It's vile, even by andreas bianchi standards, but also entertaining for those with the right mindset. I watched it at a new years party and a lot of people left the room for drinks at certain points!

keirarts 7th July 2012 10:37 AM

my double indemnity had loads of glue, while lost weekend had almost none?!

Same here. But i managed to get rid of it all without any damages.

Then i just took a scissor and removed the upper part so all the specs are still on the back. They should have printed it on the box instead.

Hmmm...I didn't think this was the case with Malabimba. Isn't there extra footage other than the hardcore scenes in the long version? And are all the sex scenes just inserts?

And isn't "perverts" a bit harsh?

I can inly presume it is better than the atrocious Satan's Baby Doll! I hope so for Pete's sake...ahaha "for Pete's sake"...sweet...

A website with a list of "hardcore inserts" would be handy: to easily refer to to see if they were added later or intentional from the off.

Every day I wake hoping Criterion have decided to reissue it on a Blu-Ray.

It's one of my De Palma faves.

Everything looks legit, so if it's a bootleg it's been done with a very high quality printer.

Have Image ever released anything on DVD-R?

Should have bought it from the USA, I suppose. Wanted it quickly so paid slightly extra for a UK seller and it looks like it's counterfeit!

The filmmakers said they were but I saw a clip and it was clearly shot at the same time.

Same here – and the Island of Lost Souls Steelbook had minimal glue, which makes it easy to open and close with the cardboard surround still in place.

Seen that a few times now.

I quite like it.

Can't go wrong with Cerina Vincent and Tarrant from Blakes-7 in the same film i say.

This weeks deliveries.

Crimson Blade 7th July 2012 07:09 PM

As they were pretty cheap, i picked up Enzo G Castellari's Bronx Warriors and Escape From The Bronx yesterday in HMV.
I have to say though that i still prefer his earlier work like The Big Racket etc. But they still were highly entertaining.
The leading character, Trash, was a bit embarrassing however. :D

Received this silly but fun unrelated sequel... ;)

Sometimes they can make it look like it's taking place in the same room but as you seem quite confident i leave this open until i've seen some stills as proof. Can you post some? :)

Thanks. I watched imdb and it seems like the unrated version was for the Italian release while the longer XXX-version was released somewhere else. France, in US porn theatres maybe?

Heard A Boy and His Dog mentioned on the radio this morning and remembered I don't own a copy. Got the R0 with commentary on ebay for under 6 quid including postage from US  . . .

Great purchase. One of the best spaghetti-westerns!

Slippery Jack 8th July 2012 10:38 PM

Woo Hoo! Thanks to the invaluable blu ray bargains thread, just got Frankenhooker and Tenebrae from Zavvi for £9.95 apiece. Plus, just before ordering I remembered I'd got a 10% voucher knocking around in my inbox, so that shaved £2 off the total

Especially chuffed about Frankenhooker - only just fallen in love with it the past week, but the best deal was something like £16.95 on amazon :mmph: . . .

Dog Soldiers was such a good movie, I heard they're making a sequel or something.
Also are the Laid To Rest's any good? Been hearing a fair bit about them

I thought Laid to Rest was pretty (extremely) dire, but then I'm no connoisseur of that video dungeon stuff . . .

Demoncrat 9th July 2012 11:26 AM
