You've never seen King Kong?

I much prefer the 1933 version by Merian C. Cooper and Ernest B. Schoedsack as it's everything you want from the story, is engaging and entertaining, and features superb and groundbreaking stop motion animation. As much as I appreciate the motion capture work (and Andy Serkis's amazing acting) that went into creating Kong for the recent incarnation, Peter Jackson's film felt overlong and was not as engaging as I had hoped for expected it to be.

I really hope you enjoy Cooper and Schoedsack's film as much as I do.

I echo Dem and Nos on this. King Kong is a simply wonderful film. For 1933 the effects work looks absolutely stunning and the whole thing just works beautifully. I've yet to pick up the new blu but I've had a few different dvd releases and even they looked good so I'd hope the blu would look excellent.

You can forget about CGI movies

'King Kong' is (without doubt) the greatest special effects film ever made

Had to resist The Time Machine and Forbidden Planet but picked up King Kong and Excalibur from the HMV premium collection in their 2 for £15 offer.

I'm hoping to pick King Kong and something else up on the weekend. Donnie Brasco I'm thinking.

Donnie Brasco is a great film. The version on this release is the extended cut of the film which is 25 minutes longer than the theatrical version.
