Yep, but you got to feel for the alien guy, " I have studied and mastered the spark of creation, and you want me to chuck myself in the drink? But that opening, big guy could just as easily taken a dump to deposit the genetic code on earth.

Because of the national train strike I'm home today so went shopping and picked these up along the way... ;)

They were in the "2 for 5 Euro" (new) sale at my local shop but I hope they're at least half decent...

Urban Explorer is a decent enough film. Not spectacular but diverting enough.

I agree, won the BD on here, like you say it's not spectacular but definitely worth a repeated viewing

Just ordered From Dusk Till Dawn, the two sequels and Full Tilt Boogie on BD from the US (Moviemars through Amazon Marketplace) for £10.

I have a feeling that all 4 will be on the same disc though, so hopefully the quality won't be shonky!

Started working my way through the Universal set with Dracula. I'm not a fan of Lugosi's Dracula, but I do agree it was very influential.

Interestingly, there's a nice piece on the restoration of the movie. One of the guys interviewed basically said he wanted the viewers to think that they ( the restoration team ) were "never there" - ie restoring it to its original state without interfering in the presentation. And they have done a beautiful job. Hammer, take note.

I wish everyone would stop saying how awesome this set is, still haven't had mine from Sainsbury's, but they're "looking into it" :(:(:(:(:(:cry::cry:

Sorry Rik :o

Don't worry - it's well worth the wait!

Mind you, you'll need bionic eyesight to read the text on the back cover

If I don't here owt from them, or receive it tomorrow, then I'm cancelling my order and going elsewhere, this is the first time I've had any issue with them, which is why I tend to buy from them regularly :mmph:

I still haven't got round to buying a copy. Can't quite bring myself to spend that much cash.

Dracula is probably the most important reason why I would pick this up.
Curious about the restoration (especially the audio) though.
The last restoration was very bright looking but had (most of) the original audio.
I always liked the hiss and pops on Dracula's audio as it made the film more moody imho. ;)

Edit:think I'll maybe be picking this up...still have my doubts about the audio but it sounds the restoration was very good.
Also noticed the slight zooming of the previous edition is gone. :)

Is the Kenneth Brannagh narrated Universal Horror doc included in the UK set ? Excellent documentary...

Nosferatu@Cult Labs 3rd October 2012 07:20 PM

Mine still hasn't appeared and I just hope it's a little late getting it rather than being lost in the mail, putting me in the same situation as Rik.

Night of the living dead 90 blu arrived today. Thinking about buying prometheus on blu too. Is it worth buying as I haven't seen it yet?

PaulD 3rd October 2012 07:33 PM

Nice. I really fancy going through the Elm Street films again so could do with picking up that set at some point.

Dracula Blu-ray - Bela Lugosi

This new restoration has definitely toned down the brightness ( as illustrated in the documentary ). It looks superb.

By the way, the Spanish Dracula has also been similarly restored.

bdc 3rd October 2012 07:44 PM

Nice, the Spanish Dracula will probably always look better than the US version because better materials survived. :)
I noticed they lifted the opening music from the undamaged Spanish elements when restoring the US version.

My sister and her boyfriend bought me that set for Chrimbo last year, I had myself a nice Freddy marathon a few days into the new year, well worth picking up

Wes 3rd October 2012 07:49 PM

Yep, Spanish Dracula looks great, but the Count's opening line "Soy Dracula" just doesn't have the same bite as Lugosi's line... I think critical opinion has been a little too harsh on the film over the years, sure it's talky but it's a great mood piece. I watched it one time on the edge of sleep and it was quite an experience...

Ordered this lot recently on DVD, my first foray into Shriek Show DVDs!:-

http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/...500_AA300_.jpghttp://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/...500_AA300_.jpghttp://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/...500_AA300_.jpghttp://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/...500_AA300_.jpghttp://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/...500_AA300_.jpg

The only Shameless title I need now that I don't own on any format is DELLAMORTE DELLAMORE but I don't think I want to buy their DVD when the German BD is available for less! Wasn't there talk of them releasing it on BD a while ago? I take it that isn't happening now?

Yep, ignore the script and sit back and watch Ridley show how a master can turn that into a fab bit of sci-fi.

"Shameless Fulci Box of Terror" - oh, you know the one! £8:00*

*Oh, the blurb on the back of this set says it is a 'limited edition'. Does anyone know how limited/rare it actually is?
