I know. It may be an exercise in futility, but I'm trying to understand his shopping habits.

Prior to today, had you bought at least six Ultra HD Blu-ray Discs without a player from which to play them?

if 'knowing' is supposed to be 'know', then yes.

Regarding your shopping habits, there is a difference between knowing and understanding!

I bet most, if not all, of those were new releases where the DVD was not available as a stand-alone release; all the Ultra HD releases are also available to buy on standard Blu-ray Disc.

Well I had about 15 dvds before I got a player
Mostly things I just wanted to 'see' again ahaha.

Still wish I had bought a Inferno Laserdisc that I found in London. Could I play that? No. Was it a lovely thing to behold? Yes.
D'oh etc.

But was there an option for you to buy the DVD on its own and not as part of the new dual format release?

That's where you and trebor differ then, because he was buying films which were available on all three formats (DVD, standard Blu-ray and Ultra HD Blu-ray), only two of which he could play at the time. With a new console and disk drive, trebor can now play all three and enjoy the glory of 4K!
