Some great choices there. Touch Of Evil is a superb film and far better than the hugely overrated Citizen Kane.

The Reaper Man@Cult Labs 28th April 2010 07:28 PM

I've never seen an Orson Welles film in my life.......:behindsofa:

None. Quite a grainy print too. Not up to Optimum's usual standards.

The Reaper Man@Cult Labs 28th April 2010 11:39 PM

Wonder if the AWE disc is better.....

But...but...The Magnificent Ambersons! Even in the studio mutilated version we have left it's a wonderful masterpiece!!!

Mind you, I love Citizen Kane too. I prefer it The Third Man, which I think is over-rated (though still exceptional!).

Touch Of Evil is sublime though...as is Mancini's score...*happy sigh*

vincenzo 28th April 2010 11:45 PM

I quite enjoyed The Magnificent Ambersons but the studio edits just messed it up too much for me. I preferred The Lady From Shanghai.

pedromonkey 29th April 2010 12:22 AM

Touch of Evil is a film i've been meaning to get for about 4 years and as amazon were selling it for less than 3.00 i snatched it up and it was brand new...

Stephen@Cult Labs 29th April 2010 05:31 AM

Yes Vince.I wonder? :tongue1:

And Reaper,it looks good next to Grease,Fiddler On The Roof etc

vincenzo 29th April 2010 04:27 PM

The 1978 Donald Sutherland version was one of the best film remakes of all time for me.

Have to sat I was not impressed with these.

"Sweeney 1" is the better, more entertaining, film but the 'spying/political intrigue plot is just not very Sweeney.

"Sweeney 2" starts good (classic 70's style armed robbery) but then stops dead to become a soap opera about the villains personal lives until the quickly done climax.

Just bought the BFI Salo for £6.99 off Amazon.

I've never been much of a fan. It's OK, but falls too far short of the Siegel for me. To be honest, I prefer the 1993 version to the 1978, it has a lovely, cold, crawling creepiness and the military base setting is scary to begin with even before you add Pod People!
