The discs are exactly the same and the box is smaller then the US one.
Its just that it has a few missing goodies like message from jacob, blacklight etc

Ah thats upped my hopes! I'll be watching it tonight, and I'll give my opinion later too.

Also just bought Face Off from the local cash generator on the way home. They also had a lovely region one "ten years" release of Reservoir Dogs too, it was the Mr Pink edition and was really nice, but I couldn't afford it cause it was a fiver and I only had enough for one film, so hopefully it will still be there on the weekend.

Got my US Back To The Future set today. The packaging is pathetic. Looks like I'll also be getting the UK tin.

Was in glasgow yesterday picking up my ticket for sinister sunday of shock, when I happened to pop into 3 different HMV's I ended up getting:
Inferno, The Exorcist and The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo all on Bluray.

Being a member is giving me urges to buy more and more horror. What have you done to me people

I have just finished watching The Evil Dead on blu ray. I have the Region A Sony Pictures Release.

The good news, for anyone who likes to see films as they are intended is that T.E.D has plenty of grain. I really think the grainy look works for Evil Dead it adds to the overall atmosphere giving it a real grind house feel, and having The Evil Dead without grain would be like having it without liberal use of a fogging machine. In fact at times it hard to tell where the fog ends and the grain begins. I think if Sony had tried to do some kind of digital jiggery pokery to try and de-grain the film I would have gone on a Crank style rampage at their UK offices.

All that grain though doesn't mean that there is no detail. This is the best I have ever seen Evil Dead. I didn't see any print damage throughout the film the image was totally clear. I have never seen so many shades of blood in the film before from a bright red all the way to muddy browns and blacks. Tom Sullivan’s make up art also comes off really well imo, there's so much detail in all of the cuts scrapes and gaping wounds. Of course E.D. is never going to look like The Dark Night but the fact that its a 25 or so year old 16mm film it looks pretty fantastic, even the slightly hokey stop motion finale looked good (except the porridge coming out of one of the decomposing deadites sleeve which, even in HD, looks like porridge coming out of a sleeve).

The Evil Dead BD, like The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, proves that there is a point to restoring 16mm film to the best possible level for blu ray. However it's only worth doing if you are going to try to get the film to look like the director intended (or was limited to) and not try and artificially make it look better (we're all looking at you Predator).

The sound on the disk is 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio, unfortunately I only have stereo speakers at the moment but the sound was very clear and there were lots of little details like wind and voices that I've not picked up on before.

The new documentary is quite interesting, however, most die-hard deadites probably wont hear much new information. As for the new commentary I'm listening to it now and it seems quite informative, but again I've heard a lot of the stories before. I've yet to see the PIP track.

Evil Dead is one of my very favourite horror and it's great to be able to see it at its best.

Thats enough missing stuff for me to warrant it a failure as box set and order the US version. I want every single item that the US set has or it's a no buy from me. I hate the way we get ripped off over here with the half-arsed box sets.
