Unfortunately classic ghost stories and their film and tv equivalents such as those by Dickens and James are often unexplained and ambiguous, rather than nailing the viewer in the head with crashing music and headache inducing editing.

All the better for it in my opinion.

Totally agree, I like my mind stretched but this just lost me at the end, the missus gave up 20 mins in, but I percevered and it got really dark and broody and just when I thought I had handle on procedings, wham, WTF? right in the last 5 seconds! I was thinking, whilst watching it, the Americans can not do ghost stories like us, and the BBC especially.

Still peed I dont get it though

Actually, I've just checked my DVD collection and I don't own Groundhog Day, High Plains Drifter or The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance only the one double dip.

My local 99p store had a few horrors in today such as Deadtime, Mindflesh, Axe and The Unforgiving.

I picked up just the one, Someone's Knocking at the Door, which tempted me with it's claim to be a throwback to 70's grindhouse but I may go back for more!

Mindflesh is excellent Sam. I really recommend you go back and get it.

Here's my review of it and Frankie's reply.

I do like it though.
Its a sort of a reversal of the traditional idea of a ghost story. The signalman is haunted by premonitions of things to come.

Had to import as the UK Blu-ray is inexplicably cropped to 1.78:1.
