You really need to see the first 2 new planet of the apes films before that one Gag. They are all really good but you wont get any investment in the main character if you start on the last one.
Besides the second is the best one.

I watched all three of the new Apes films recently for the first time, absolutely amazing films IMO, yeah the second was the best!

Cheers , but yes that would be silly watching the 3rd one before the other 2, I'm pretty sure I've got the first 2 somewhere, House is a bit upside down at the moment, we are decorating parts and sorting stuff out, having a bit of a clear out and also changing things around as well.
So prob be a while before I do tho with other stuff on my pile to watch list.

Don't get your hopes up. There's fun to be had and lovely chemistry later between Capaldi and Kingston but as a Doctor Who adventure it's slight.
