Still the much better PQ is the reason to pick this up.
It doesn't seem to be getting reported anywhere, but according to Melon Farmers this new Blu-Ray release of the 'Scream' trilogy actually contains the uncut directors version of the first film - previously releases have been the edited theatrical one

Apparently this image of a gutting...

I'm sure that was on the version on Stan I saw the other night. I thought the PQ looked better than the old Blu too.

Unfortunately the new Scream release is still just the R rated cut. I'm absolutely certain that Melon Farmers are mistaken, those small parts have always been in the theatrical cut. In the unrated cut, you actually see the first victim being disemboweled (not just the aftermath) and you definitely don't see that here.

I wish my new blu-ray had a branching option where the unrated footage was made available (wouldn't bother me if it was of a lesser quality).

Edit: Just looked at Melon Farmers, looks like those small bits might have been in unrated but this definetly isn't an uncut release. I watched it earlier this week and the mutual stabbing at the finale is still censored with the viewer just hearing stab sounds rather than seeing all of it (that's the cutting that really bothers me). Maybe this is some sort of weird hybrid release? I'm gonna look at my old Scream blu-ray and see if those two images are the same in that.

Exactly the same on my old German Scream blu-ray, not sure why Melon Farmers think those two bits are more graphic than what has appeared on blu-ray before. btw I did once have an unrated dvd of Scream but I sold off most of a dvd collection to fund kickstarting a decent sized bd collection. Sometimes I think I should have kept that one.

Awkward

I've been checking the 4k just now and it's definitely the R-Rated cut, that scene with Steve's guts is in the R-rated, the true uncut version shows him actually being sliced open right before that shot.

Four things arrived. A secondhand UK dvd of Tobe Hooper's Toolbox Murders (I'm surprised this didn't get a blu-ray release), secondhand blu-rays of both Creed movies (felt like watching some boxing) and the new 4K UHD set of Argento's Deep Red. Unusual for me to get so many things at the same time.

Edit: Had a sneak peek at Deep Red and it looks fantastic, better than the Bird or Cat 4K UHDs. Can't wait to watch it on Halloween.
