1. Dr Strangelove, or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb (1964)
2. Threads (1984)
3. Full Metal Jacket (1987)
4. Lifeboat (1944)
5. The Third Part of the Night (1971)
6. Closely Observed Trains (1966)
7. Come and See (1985)
8. A Field in England (2013)
9. Black Moon (1975)
10. The Man Who Lies (1968)

Actually much easier than I thought! I didn't have the scrape the bottom of the barrel where my war film watching was concerned - all of the above are in fact fantastic films and all favourites of mine.

Sure, a few are probably not 'War' in the conventional sense, but thank you IMDb genre filter.

It's such a fantastic film and one of my favourite from Hitchcock. To think that the bulk of the film takes place in a small boat, yet the way it engages you and keeps your interest is truly phenomenal.

I've got a list but its not very conventional. Think I'll hold off til next week in the hope i can fit a few films in. Was having a peruse on Now TV last night. There's a fair few on there. I've got A Bridge Too Far on dvd i bought years ago and have never got round to watching as well.

I grew up watching classic war movies.

However i also acknowledge that there are other films which may feature, films set during a war that may not feature that much action for example.

I intend to do a couple of lists. All action war films and 'Others'.
Same here.

I think the films have to principally be set during a recognised conflict, whether the American or British civil war, Napoleonic conflicts, Korean of Vietnam wars, World War I or World War II, the Cold War, the 'War on Terror' (The Hurt Locker, Zero Dark Thirty, American Sniper etc.), or even 'the troubles', so films like '71 and Hunger (2008) might count.
