I found it impossible to create a top 10 list of comedy shows, so I had to do a top 20 – and even this was difficult!
  • Absolutely Fabulous
  • Black Books
  • Blackadder
  • Brass Eye
  • The Day Today
  • Father Ted
  • The Fast Show
  • Fawlty Towers
  • Garth Marenghi’s Darkplace
  • The IT Crowd
  • Knowing Me Knowing You with Alan Partridge/I'm Alan Partridge
  • The League of Gentlemen
  • Monty Python's Flying Circus
  • Nathan Barley
  • Peep Show
  • Phoenix Nights
  • Red Dwarf
  • Spaced
  • The Thick of It
  • Yes Minister

Again, this is in alphabetical order and and I know I have cheated a little by putting both Alan Partridge series as one entry instead of separately.

Although I've only seen it once, it is something I keep meaning to rewatch but has really stuck with me due to the quality of the writing, acting, direction, and every aspect of the production from costumes to visual effects.

If we were to do this in a year, I imagine Dickensian would be on it and, because Bleak House is on a table behind me, that may be there as well. What they would replace is a mystery. I'd also like to watch/rewatch the other Andrew Davies-penned series such as Doctor Zhivago, Little Dorrit, Pride and Prejudice, Middlemarch, War and Peace, and Northanger Abbey.

This has been a tough one, had to omit some great shows whittling it down, but here are my top ten(ahem) Brit comedies.

Blackadder
The Young Ones ( an absolute favourite can't believe no one else here rates it)
It Crowd
Peep Show
Mighty Boosh
Monty Python
Fawlty Towers
Reginald Perrin
Rising Damp
Spaced
Hitchhikers Guide To The Galaxy

Nearly made my list as well, but I had to cheat and put Knowing Me Knowing You with Alan Partridge and I'm Alan Partridge on the same line in order to include them both – The Young Ones would have been 21 if the list had an extra line!

The Singing Detective is brilliant, but I've only seen it once.

As for children's TV, I thought of including Trumpton, Chigley and Camberwick Green, Bagpuss, Shaun the Sheep, The Magic Roundabout (even though it is French in origin), The Clangers and Thunderbirds but, again, ran out of room.
