Unlike 'Rosemary's Baby' and 'The Omen', 'The Exorcist' doesn't feature the Devil - it features the demon Pazuzu, who has a basis in Assyrian and Babylonian mythology, and is the son of the god Hanbi, and considered to be the king of the wind demons

That's fine as the theme this week is Demons and Hell.

Is Jigoku available outside of the Criterion DVD? I've never seen it, but Japanese demon films are interesting, especially those from the 50's/60's such as Onibaba.

Exactly. 'The Exorcist' fits in perfectly with the concept of Demons and Hell, but some people seem to have missed that fact:

It's more of a possession film, it's a demonic possession but still. I'm easily swayed, I picked it the first time around but I would happily remove it for something else if I could think of something else

There are many things which take place in the film, but the central plot thread is the demonic possession of a 12-year-old girl (the Demon Pazuzu, to be precise).

Whatever you call the Devil, whether it is Beelzebub, Lucifer, Satan, or something else, most Judaeo-Christian texts consider him to be the main Demon.
