It is a film about obsession, but whether that is enough to become 'madness' is debatable. I don't think I would include it on my list, but that's just my opinion.

As I found it impossible to make a top 10 list of 'madness and paranoia', I had to separated into two separate lists, one for each category. I'm not entirely happy because there are so many films that could make each list (or even both because the lines are sometimes blurred), but this will have to do.

MADNESS
  • One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest
  • Black Swan
  • Shutter Island
  • The Shining
  • Repulsion
  • Apocalypse Now
  • Black Narcissus
  • Shock Corridor
  • Spider
  • Through a Glass Darkly

PARANOIA
  • Arlington Road
  • Bug
  • Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1956)
  • Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1978)
  • Enemy of the State
  • Dark City
  • The Conversation
  • Blow Out
  • The Thing
  • The Tenant

I really like Scorsese's Shutter Island. Shame that I couldn't find room for it on my list. Also Apocalypse Now never occurred to me, obviously an amazing film and quite apt for the topic.

Have you read Dennis Lehane's novel? It is extremely good, but testament to screenwriter Laeta Kalogridis that the film is the equal of the source material.

No I haven't read it. I haven't read a book for several years now (yes, ignorant I know), I just spend my time watching and rewatching movies.

If you have a week or so to read instead of watching movies so often, pick up his novels which have been made into films: Mystic River, Gone, Baby, Gone,, Shutter Island and Live by Night.

I love WALL-E and don't think I will ever tire of watching it. It is such a smart and endearing movie, and the title character is so lovable, funny, and emotive.
