I disagree. The drugs industry in general operates as a business. Just not a legitimate one. Scarface isn't 'just a drugs film' . I would argue that description is very reductive and overly simplified. Oliver stone who wrote the film fully intended it to be a critique of the American dream with Tony Montana on a notation alger ride to the top as a self made man. The film draws many parallels with 80s business culture as a result and is possibly as much a critique of the 80s as wall street was.

Nos specified business and money which i felt made possible lists quite limiting.
Although I specified "business and money", I'm happy for people to be creative with what they consider a business. As kierarts said, the cocaine industry in the 1980s was (and probably still is) a massive industry which allowed people to create highly lucrative, and highly illegal, business empires. In terms of the morality of what takes place, there's not much difference between the events in Scarface and Wall Street! It's perhaps not a coincidence they are both written by Oliver Stone.

@ Keirarts and Nos - you've both brought valid arguments to the table which i can't argue with.

I'm surprised no one's gone for Psycho. After all Norman does run a hotel.

Or Jaws.

Psycho is an interesting call because part of the narrative is about a struggling business because of the highway moving away from the motel and the other part is about stolen money, which people think may have been used to prop up the failing business.

As for Jaws, the book and film are slightly different in who is pressuring the Mayor to keep Amity open during the 4th of July weekend, but it's also about a series of businesses struggling to stay in the black and someone turning to desperate measures to (pun intended) stay afloat.

This is something I really like about this thread – it can throw up all sorts of left field suggestions which make you look at films in a completely different way and consider parts of the narrative and character arcs which had probably been ignored before.

I'd say there's an argument for either one.

Definitely. I wasn't being sarcastic, just thinking outside the box. Or should i say outside the Google search engine.

I had to include a documentary. There's loads of good ones out there like Wal-Mart the high cost of low prices and corporation. I included Enron smartest guys in the room as it's possibly the best account of corporate culture running totally amok with no accountability. I highly recommend it.
