Despite the lovely weather when I'm guessing most people would spend more time outside than usual, there have been plenty of excellent lists. Predictably, given the small sample size, only a few were of real-time films but the Peter Cushing ones contain a wide variety of movies, roles, and show the great man's versatility and longevity.

This week will be little different and require everyone to submit two lists which it would be great if you could order and specify the character, film and actor, and let your imagination run free across all different genres and eras. To help you know what should qualify for each category, here are definitions I have paraphrased from when the American Film Institute did the same thing:

Hero: someone who prevails in extreme circumstances and dramatises a sense of morality, courage and purpose. Though they may be ambiguous or flawed, they often sacrifice themselves to show humanity at its best.

Villain: someone who wickedness of mind, selfishness of character and will to power are sometimes masked by beauty and nobility, while others may rage unmasked. They can be horribly evil or grandiosely funny, but are ultimately tragic.

HEROES AND VILLAINS

Which Holmes film were you thinking of?

Must admit none of the film Moriarty's stand out to me. He won't come near a top ten of mine.

Personally i think the only memorable Moriarty aside from Andrew Scott in Sherlock was Eric Porter in the Brett stories The Red Headed League and The Final Problem.

The ones in the Rathbone films - Atwill, Daniel and Zucco aren't memorable at all. Just my opinion.

I like your inclusion of John Creasy. He was most definitely a hero to that little girl.

I have only seen Rathbone and Downey Jnr's Holmes but read most of the books. I think Creasey is a hero to alot by laying his life down for the little girl.
