As much as I rate Manhunter, I thought Brian Cox was an awful Hannibal Lecter myself.

I thought he was good but I always thought the 'Cox was better' argument seemed to be made by people wanting to be a bit edgy.

So glad I’m not the only one that thinks this!

Hopkins is the John Innman of Hannibal Lecters. More camp than scary. I honestly have no idea how he won an oscar for that awful performance.

I also like Brian Cox's portrayal, but prefer Anthony Hopkins, finding the way he channelled Katharine Hepburn and HAL 9000 extremely creepy and sinister. Unlike in Manhunter, The Silence of the Lambs showed exactly what violent acts Lecter was capable of and the casual way he beats the police officer to death with a truncheon always surprises me in its brutality.
