FAVOURITE HORROR FILMS FROM 2000-2009

I found this extremely difficult because I didn't realise how many excellent horror movies, particularly non-English ones, were made in this decade.

That's why I began with a list of well over 40 films, cutting it down to 30 and then eventually 10. The final cut down was very tough.
  • Bug
  • Calvaire
  • Dark Water
  • The Descent
  • The Devil's Backbone
  • Dog Soldiers
  • The Eye
  • Ginger Snaps
  • The House of the Devil
  • Inside
  • Into the Mirror
  • Ju-on: The Grudge
  • Land of the Dead
  • Let the Right One In
  • The Orphanage
  • The Others
  • Pitch Black
  • R-Point
  • [REC]
  • Saw
  • Session 9
  • Shaun of the Dead
  • A Tale of Two Sisters
  • Them
  • Thirst
  • Toolbox Murders
  • Trick 'r Treat
  • 28 Days Later
  • Wolf Creek
  • Zombieland

I may not make the same list of my favourite 10 horror films from that decade if I did it again in a couple of months, not put them in the same order. However, to reflect how I feel now, here they are:
  1. Let the Right One In
  2. The Devil's Backbone
  3. A Tale of Two Sisters
  4. Dark Water
  5. The Orphanage
  6. The Descent
  7. Shaun of the Dead
  8. [REC]
  9. Land of the Dead
  10. 28 Days Later

Likes all round!

For me, it was all about the impact they made on me at the time ... whereas with most other lists ... I have lived with the films for years. Does this make sense?

Do you mean they had an impact on your film 'education', really resonated with you at the cinema in a way that much older films couldn't because of when they were released, or something else?

I was guessing that unlike the films from the 50's,60's,70's and 80's he's only seen them once or twice at most and he's going off the impact they made rather than any sort of love gained over the decades.

That makes a lot of sense as well. I fell in love with horror years before this century rolled around and the films I watched repeatedly and became mainstays of my film collection have been viewed and analysed in a way none of the movies on my list haveā€¦ yet!
