Pity this topic is just Poliziotteschi films as it leaves out other Italian crime films like Rulers of the City, Ricco the Mean Machine, Violent City, Contraband, Death Rage and The Last Round.
I suppose I could have put 'Italian Crime Films' or something similar so it wasn't as specific/narrow. Interestingly, Wikipedia have included Contraband in their selected list of poliziotteschi films, so I guess there is some flexibility with the definition. It's probably similar to the gialli, Blaxploitation or slasher films in that you could have a good discussion about what would be a concise definition and what films would be included and which wouldn't.

In my opinion Contraband is about rival smugglers. Sure the police are in it but they aren't central to the story like they are in what i would define Poliziotteschi films.

Same with What Have they done to your Daughters? It's police procedural in tracking down a killer which surely means giallo rather than Poliziotteschi which i'd say are more action orientated as the cops face crime lords and general gangland mayhem.

Interesting choice – it's not a film I'd have thought of as a poliziotteschi because of the absence of a policeman during the bulk of the running time.

Poliziotteschi films cover the broad spectrum of Italian crime films from the the late 1960s-late 1970s - that’s certainly my criteria for selection - cops are absent or marginalised in a couple of my picks.

Nice to see another fan of Big Guns, and a genre expert as well.

I love Delon! I love Belmondo too but none of his films count as I can't think of one of his cop flicks that could be shoe-horned into the Italian cycle.

Have you seen Peur sur la ville, Demdike? It's brilliant.
