Top 10 Masked Movie Characters

Cat Woman (Batman Returns (1992))
Darth Vader
Jason Vorhees (Friday the 13th Part VII: The New Blood (1988) )*
Michael Myers (Halloween (1978))
Batman (Batman Returns (1992))
Chrome Skull (Laid to Rest (2009))
Henry (Bruiser (2000))
The Shadow (The Shadow (1994))
Daredevil (Daredevil (2003))

I love this version of the mask as it's as grotesque as Jason himself by this stage in the film series.

Answering myself here.

Yes it's a gladiatorial helmet that guards the cheek bones and nose as well, as it covered his upper features Maximus used the helmet as a mask to hide his features so as not to be recognised.

Because the helmet extends to cover most of the face, I'm passing it is a mask as well. The design is to 'mask' the wearer's appearance and covers as much as the headwear in RoboCop, The Princess Bride, or any of the Batman films.

I noticed you had answered yourself!

There is a fine line between a helmet and mask, so I'm including anything which disguises the wearer's appearance under the broader definition of a mask.

Thanks to everyone who contributed their lists of favourite masks or masked characters.

Apparently today is Absurdity Day, a day to celebrate the absurd. There is a philosophical strand of absurdity which stems from the horrors of the Second World War and the threat of complete annihilation during the Cold War. If you don't want to get to bogged down in philosophy, it's a day to look at the inherent silliness of life or just to find the humour in the mundane.

Absurdity is…
the quality or state of being ridiculous or wildly unreasonable, illogical

stupid and unreasonable, or silly in a humorous way.

ridiculous, nonsensical

There are many films which operate from an absurdist viewpoint and can be deeply thought-provoking. Others embrace anarchy to highlight a ridiculous situation. These are a bit different from the WTF films, but there is sometimes an overlap because they can be surreal or nonsensical.

Try not to be bogged down in the philosophy of things, but look at the definitions above and try and find 10 films which seem to fit within those definitions or synonyms.

ABSURD FILMS
