My thanks to those who contributed a list of their favourite films based on children's books and/or horror films from 1973.

The topic for this week combines two different exploitation sub-genres. If you feel able to make a list for each one, that's great, but a combined list would be just as interesting.

For me the film doesn't actually get better than the opening scenes in Iraq. I think they are outstanding and really set the religious and mythological tone of the film. The rest, although brilliantly conceived, is almost played out for shock value.

I find the most shocking seems to be those in the hospitals, with Regan undergoing medical tests shot documentary-style. I love the relationship between Lt Kinderman and Father Karras, the investigation each one undertakes (criminal behaviour and demonic possession, respectively), and the frustration, helplessness, and love displayed by Chris MacNeil.

I've only seen those two films the single time each. Enjoyed them both as well.

Sadly I have not seen enough films of any of the two genres to even make up to ten.

I know I know the shame and disgrace of it.

I must admit i have several from each genre, but suggesting the majority of them would make a top ten of anything aside from worst films ever is being hopeful at the very least. Although i do think i could stretch to a joint top 10. I think that says more about me than it does you, Nordy.

I can feel another year topic beckoning Nos, for those who don't specialise in Eurocine shite.

Okay, I'll admit to thinking this was a reasonably easy topic, especially with the two combined, but I'll have a look and, with a more general topic as well.
