Oh i know which films they are all from just not the character names. Vampyros Lesbos?, The Great Silence... no idea what they are called.

Point Blank has long been a fave of mine since the big box pre cert days.

It's not even had a dvd release in the UK up until it's Premium Collection release recently. Criminal!

Ditto. I had to Google them to find out the character names!

That said, it has been many years since I saw Vampyros Lesbos and my memory of the film is very limited, probably extending to the fact it's about lesbian vampires!

I had to Google that because I didn't recognise G:MT and it's a film I hadn't previously heard of and haven't seen. It sounds interesting and has a really good cast.

Yeah it is good, its like typical teen film leaving school and trying to get a grip on what lies ahead

For years I thought James Cameron's pacifist Terminator in Judgement Day was ridiculous but 26 years later, I can better appreciate his decision...
I'm able to follow both Susan's and Wes' train of thought, but I tend to disagree.

Although they are closely related (and constantly cross-fertilize each other), I really like to differentiate between art (a film, a song, a poem, a painting,...) and real life.

If we allow recent events or the current emotional or social state of our society to decide whether it's appropriate or not to show a film, air a song, recite a poem, or discuss a painting, we're on the wrong track.

Why? Because not too long ago, we had quite a few discussions in different European countries about whether films or songs (or whatever media you like to think of) are able to negatively influence human behavior or not. Mentioning the Judas Priest song "Better by You, Better Than Me" and the whole debate about the dangers of "Video Nasties" should be enough to illustrate what I mean. In this day and age of regulations, I am really terrified that at the end of the road a new wave of (moral) censorship may be waiting for us.

As I already said, I perfectly understand both Susan's and Wes' point of view. Still, I have a queasy feeling about it.

Whether it is a sign of good taste to show Monty Python's Life of Brian on Christmas Eve, or perform a stage show that includes firearms pointed at the audience directly after a mass shooting or not... well that's definitely debatable.

Anyhow...

Well said and yes, most definitely we would be on the wrong track. For me, the older the get (41 in the new year), the more conservative my attitudes are becoming - to my regret if I'm honest, but the point Susan made strongly resonates with me. But this is learning to accept the rough with the smooth and certainly not a pro-censorship attitude.

Have a look at all those action film covers on Videos(!),DVD and on Blu ray and 99% of the time there is a man/woman with a large gun prominently shown on them.
