Thanks everyone for your blaxploitation films lists – there are quite a few mentioned which I haven't seen and are now on my wish list.

This week is comedy similarly broad, with the definition of a 'fish out of water' film coming from the BFI:

"Cinema has long thrived on the plot device in which our heroes find themselves completely out of their depth in a new environment."

Think of films where one of the main characters isn't necessarily a real fish out of water, but someone in a completely alien environment and the drama, comedy, horror, or aspects of dramatic tension follow from them adapting to new cultural mores and others adapting to them.

Top 10 Fish out of Water films.

Jaws (1975)
North by Northwest (1959)
Midnight Cowboy (1969)
Enchanted (2007)
Kindergarten Cop (1990)
Borat (2006)
In Bruges (2008)*
Crocodile Dundee (1986)
Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery (1987)
Coming to America (1988)

A difficult subject this as there are so many that could fall into the category. For once i decided to ignore horror films completely.

Great list. I actually thought of In Bruges, Borat, and The Dictator, but mustn't have written them down.

I could have gone with all three SBC films but chose just the one in Borat.

I hope people realise i put Jaws at number one due to Brody being the fish out of water and not the bloody shark.

I completely got that. He's someone petrified of water with, prior to the attacks, no knowledge of sharks and yet finds himself in a boat hunting a huge great white shark with a marine scientist and experienced fishermen.

These are some guesses that may or may not fit into this week's top 10 list (only 8 come to mind and looked up one or 2)

Howard The Duck
Kate and Leopold
Predator
Private Benjamin
The Cowboy Way
The Hills Have Eyes
Thor
Working Girl

I'll be honest, it was a pain doing this one. Chances are some of these are inappropriate
