The Ice House (1978)

“There is only ice in the ice house”

Unsettling and chilling, this was the last of the original run of Ghost Stories for Christmas but in truth isn't really what you'd call December viewing, more like cheery mid summer.

All these years and viewing later i'm still trying to work out the subtleties of the story.

Although not as good as the classic BBC Ghost Stories, I still enjoy both Stigma and The Ice House. The latter I find very chilling ( pun intended ) but I’m not quite sure why! It’s a very strange tale indeed.

A Christmas Story. 1983.

Is it bad that I still laugh at the Chinese restraunt scene with the staff trying to sing a Christmas carol or two. The lengths that kids go through just to get that one special Christmas present, something we have all done ourselves.

A Christmas Story Christmas. 2022.

Ralphie goes back home for Christmas and tries to give his family the best Christmas like the one he had when he was younger.

Most of the original cast return except for Darren McGarvin and Melinda Dillon, this time Julie Haggerty steps in playing Ralphie's mum. Tbh I didn't think this would live up to the original but it does, the film does have a bit of a slow start until the family return home and you know it's not going to go well without the laughs following. Worth a watch...I triple dog dare you...

Santa's Slay. 2005.

Bill Goldberg as a killer demonic Santa, right at the start It's one that we know to never take seriously even with a family killing. Robert Gulp as the old grandpa is a laugh and very careful about his house and how many locks he needs for his door and where to hide the keys. Douglas Smith and Emilie De Ravin play the two helpless hero's who try to take on Santa. Full of laughs and good kills.

I rewatched this last night as well.

A lot of fun although it has to be said for me it never gets better than the opening few minutes where Santa slaughters James Caan and his bickering family round the dinner table.

The strip club massacre is also great fun.

At just shy of 80 minutes it doesn't outstay it's welcome but i prefer the Dutch film Sint when it comes to evil Saint Nick going on the rampage.

You'll shoot your eye out kid.

I've watched this film SO many times, it's a Christmas Eve staple in my house Usually a double bill of A Christmas Story and Home Alone 2
