According to reports HMV have overtaken Amazon as the biggest seller of physical media.

22.5% to Amazon's 20.2%

Physical media has also seen a rise in sales. The first time this has happened since 2014.

Vinyl is up 31% on last year.

The last time vinyl sold as much in the UK was 1991.

That's welcome news, I've pretty much stopped buying from Amazon now for both discs and books, I've moved my pre-orders to HMV and I try to buy in store as much as possible. HMV is going from strength to strength after their administration scare a few years back.

Blu rays will go the same way as betamax, vhs,Dvd and HD.

The companies are going for streaming bigtime (as that is the latest fad it seems ) so as long as you get a good download speed you can watch as much as your hearts content.

I've been buying most of my DVD and Blu-rays from HMV as well lately. They're great for new Arrow and 88 Films releases in the two for £25 deal, and older films in the 5 for £30 offer.

And i've got no interest in streaming whatsoever. As a collector, I want the physical product in my hand, not a crappy download.

I can not remember the last time I went into HMV but it must have years ago.

I buy only DVDs now and do not own one single Blu ray.

Yeah the same here but sadly that is the next step forward.

Not for me. With over 5000 discs of film and tv i've no wish to pay for something i cannot own.

No interest to me whatsoever.
I've also got a massive collection of DVD's and Blu-rays, so i'll always have plenty to watch.

The Black Mirror episode 15 Million Credits would be a real horrorshow for some on here.
That's what he does best. Takes a modern idiom and multiplies it to a horrific degree (see also White Bear ).

I am a hoarder. I have to explain to people that the ones on the tv are mentalists. Whereas I have an overriding interest in Modern Cultural History

Disney may be dropping 4K Blu-ray catalogue releases - could we be coming to the end of film on physical media? | The Digital Fix

"Reports are circulating the internet having gathered steam over the last few days that Disney are set to stop releasing catalogue titles - both their own releases and those of the multitude of studios they own - on 4K Blu-ray. While the format has never been huge it has become one that many collectors are treasuring as it is likely to be the last form of physical media we see."
