I think his best film is Ikiru, but The Seven Samurai is a masterpiece.

I'm a High and Low man myself. I also prefer The Hidden Fortress to Seven Samurai.

+1 - I think that it's a terrific thriller. Personally, I've always found Kurosawa to be better at contemporary stuff than period pieces, but I would give a special mention to Red Beard - I was not expecting it to be all that great, but I loved it.
