I've ordered a few things from Amazon.com which worked out at over £15 (usually several things in one package) and checked the gift option when checking out; those have never incurred the wrath of HMRC.

Me too.

I guess the benefit of 'Gift' means that the item price does not have to be declared.

I don't think they come with an item value. Plus, you can include a free personalised note to yourself!
