Oh, I'll watch any old shit and find something enjoyable about them. Of course, there's the odd one or two that's just beyond the pale, and even with my low expectations can't satisfy me.

Don't forget, I'm the man who rates The Mighty Gorga as an underrated masterpiece and thinks Ed Wood Jr is a misunderstood genius.

I don't mean films like those. I'm talking about big budget Hollywood banality with nothing to say and made without any of the enthusiasm or innovation of Ed Wood's movies – however bad.

There's something incredibly depressing about the whole 'film by focus group' scenario where you have a director without vision and a script designed to appeal to the lowest common denominator with nothing to challenge the grey cells or which may slightly offend someone somewhere in the world.

Shaft from Warner US on Aug 14th.

Also...

Olive Films will be releasing Jess Franco's Count Dracula sometime in the not too distant future! I've been quite lucky of late. Sold my Dark Sky DVD for a decent amount not long ago.

There you go Daemonia and Pete, a Franco debut, even if it is a bit mild-mannered!

Shaft and New Jack City are two of those films I really feel I should have seen by now. Will probably pick both of them up.
