This is not a new practice though, is it? I cite MGM for being responsible for introducing the bland-looking photoshop-style covers that have since become the norm for many studios. It was the 1994 re-issues of the Bond films on VHS that stuck in my mind as the definitive wtf moment for me. Who'd have thought that companies would still be adopting this approach almost 20 years on?
