I thought Fox owned them....

Or does Fox own Lakeshore now?

I think Lakeshore own the New World catalogue yes - at least the bulk of it anyway.

Hell Comes to Frogtown, Slugs, The Stuff and Vamp I think were all part of the Lakeshore catalogue.

Wasn't Hellraiser a New World picture?

Thought the New World logo turned up at the start. According to Wikipedia, which i know is often wrong, New World was acquired by 20th Century Fox.

They weren't necessarily the video release company though.

In the US and UK it was owned by Starz/Anchor Bay until the rights lapsed to Lakeshore and I think Image then released it again on Blu-ray (in poorer quality than the AB version too if I recall).

I'm not sure if Image still has the distribution rights to Hellraiser in the US... the rights to the Hellraiser franchise is a bit all over the place in the US, which is most likely why Arrow were unable to release the trilogy in dual territories.

I thought it was who released it initially on vhs rather than dvd. I may have got lost in the thread though.

Cinema Club certainly released a version on vhs. They were VCI until taken over by ITV

My first copy of Hellraiser on dvd was on Cinema Club. They released a trilogy digipack of Hellraiser and Children of the Corn about the same time. I still have CotC from cinema club.

The distributor usually licenses it from the licensee for a set amount of time or for a set number of units - they usually get first refusal on whether they want to re-license though. When the license expires the film then returns to the licensor. Cinema Club (who I don't think even exist anymore) would only have been the distributor - just like Arrow licensing MGM/Fox stuff or Twilight Time licensing from Sony etc.

My earlier post was a little confusing as Starz/Anchor Bay didn't really 'own' Hellraiser in the UK/US, they merely licensed & distributed it. I'm not actually sure who owns Hellraiser in the UK, although in the US I believe it's Lakeshore.
